Sunny beaches and gold medals are in the Okmulgee Roadrunners future. Runners from Okmulgee County traveled to Emporia, Kan. this weekend to compete in the USA Track and Field Region 9 Championship. The Roadrunners dominated both the running and field events, having 11 athletes qualify for USATF Nationals in Sacramento, Calif. later this July. The star in the Okmulgee Roadrunners’ myriad of qualifications is the 4x100-meter relay team, which placed 2nd in the finals with a time of 53.22. Bailee Worlow continues to find success with the Roadrunners, running the third leg of the women’s 4x100-meter relay team. Worlow along with Montgomery Faith, Brianna Harris and Morgan James finished with a time of 53.22, coming in right behind the G.O.E. Elite team who clocked in at 48.38. The regional runner-ups will take their chances at the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympics Track and Field Championships.

Worlow also competed in the 200-meter dash. After qualifying for the dash at regionals with a time of 1:06.36, her time took a hit this go around. Worlow placed 10th out of 13 runners with a time of 1:08.71, a two second increase from the regional qualifying meet.

Aayliah Harrison was the MVP for the Roadrunners in field events, clenching an incredible regional championship in the girl’s 15-16 high jump with a distance of 1.42 meters. Harrison has risen through the ranks this season. She earned a regional qualification after taking home 1st place once again in the high jump.

Montgomery Faith will be joining Harrison at nationals in the high jump, taking 2nd place in the women’s high jump. Faith outpaced her opponents for a regional runner-up title with a jump of 1.47.

The Roadrunners found success in other field events, including the long jump, discus throw and shot put. Destinee Monteque took home a silver medal and regional runner-up title in the girls 9-10 division long jump with a distance of 3.41 and will also compete in the 100-meter dash at nationals. She ran a time of 15.31 seconds for 5th place, edging out a spot to nationals.

Monteque earned a spot in the 100 finals after qualifying with a time of 16.33, beating out Olathe Express runner Brynn Drummond.

Skye Sanders and Keyonce Seals both earned national qualifications in the shot put and discus throw. India Seals and Sanders competed for 6th and 7th place in the girls 15-16 discus throw. Sanders edged out Seals for 6th with a throw of 19.21, while Seals came in 7th with 11.31.

Harris not only lent a hand to the 4x100 team, but also gained a qualification as an individual. She earned a spot at the 200-meter dash finals with a time of 27.45. Stepping on the start line in the finals, Harris gained her second national qualification with a time of 27.23, shaving off more than 20 seconds.

In the younger division, James Prear made an appearance in the boys 8 and under 400-meter dash. Completing one lap around in 1 minute, 43.88 seconds he tapped into a national qualifying spot.

After clenching a spot at the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympics Track and Field Championships for 11 of their athletes, the Okmulgee Roadrunners are paving their way to get to Sacramento, Calif.

The Roadrunners have set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for traveling and hotel expenses for the athletes, who will spend a week competing against runners and field athletes from across the country. The week-long competition is set to take place starting on July 22 and ending on July 28.
