Kyia Monahwee has announced her transfer from Northern Oklahoma in Tonkowa to Southeastern State Oklahoma University in Durant this coming season.
“I was looking for another home,” Monahwee said. “Southeastern just gave me a really good opportunity to keep doing what I love.”
The former Lady Eagle is approaching her sophomore year of college and will have two seasons to play for the Savage Storm in the coming years.
"She will be able to come in and add run production," Ron Faubion, Southeastern softball coach, said. "After graduating five seniors last season, she will be a big bat who can come in and hit clean-up for us."
Monahwee has played a total of 59 games for Northern Oklahoma College as an outfielder. Wanting to move up to a more demanding division, she decided to transfer to SOSU.
“It is a higher division than what I’ve been playing so there’s more competition,” Monahwee said. “I’m really excited about the competition and getting to play with the new girls. I’ve met some of them and I’m really excited.”
Monahwee’s talent shined at Northern Oklahoma with the stats to back it up. Throughout the 2018-2019 season, she hit 14 doubles, seven triples and 16 homeruns for the Lady Mavericks. As an outfielder, Monahwee earned a fielding percentage of 0.879.
During her high school career, Monahwee’s talents didn’t go unrecognized. She was selected as an all-state player and was also a four-time all-conference player. Former Southeastern baseball player Jonathan Clay helped develop Monahwee’s talents at Morris High School.
