Area youth are invited to attend First Family Federal Credit Union’s (FFFCU) annual free summer program, Budget or Bust that will be held in “The Briefcase” located at 313 West Main Street in Henryetta. Sessions will be available for middle school students (grades 6th to 8th) on July 15 and July 22. An update to the program has been added for high school students (grades 9th to 12th) on July 16 and July 23. All sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Each session will include lunch, an exclusive t-shirt and goody bags. FFFCU financial counselors have been preparing for the updated program all year long. The half-day gatherings will include learning about creating budgets, “needs versus wants” and how to save money, plus some fun games. Financial Counselor and Member Development Representative Ashley Morris is excited to work with the students this summer. “Budget or Bust is a fun way that we teach financial literacy to our youth and try to make learning an enjoyable experience,” Morris said.
Budget or Bust was first established last year using FFFCU employee’s children in a trial run.
Additional dates have been added for local children to attend.
The program has been adjusted to include financial education of older children.
High school students will also receive an overview on the car buying experience along with learning the difference between debit and credit cards.
“It’s a big eye opener for the students,” FFFCU Financial Counselor and Member Service Representative Amber Pippin said. “We want the kids to be confident that they can manage their own money.”
Budget or Bust is open to the public at no cost.
