The Okmulgee Roadrunners, a competitive track club, traveled to Bethany over the weekend to compete against runners from around the state. Starting their third season as a club, the Okmulgee Roadrunners participated in the Eastside Steppers Invitational track and field meet where the Roadrunners nabbed several top honors.

Bailee Warlow and fellow teammates snagged first place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 52.45 seconds. That wasn’t the only medal Warlow returned with. She also took home a silver medal in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:06.18.

Returning state champion, Destinee Monteque began the season with a bang. She earned 1st place in the girls 9-10 long jump event with a distance of 11 feet 4.50 inches, while teammate Tatiyona Harris placed 3rd in the girls 13-14 long jump event with a distance of 13 feet 2.50 inches. Monteque also placed within the top 10 in two track events, finishing 8th in the 100 meters and 9th in the 400 meters.

The Okmulgee Roadrunners took home another gold medal in the girls high jump event. Faith Montgomery competed against Elysia Kunkler and earned 1st place with a jump of 4 feet 6 inches. Montgomery not only did well in field events but took home 4th in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line at 2:41.38 minutes.

Charles Mason dominated the boys field events, earning two silver medals in shotput and discus. Throwing 43 feet 8 inches in the shot put event, Mason only trailed behind Eastside Stepper Jerimiah Major by three feet. Mason threw a 106 feet 10 inches in the discus event to take home his second silver medal. Following right behind Mason in both events, Keyonce Seals took home two bronze medals in the shotput and discus events. Seals earned 98 feet 9 inches in the discus and 36 feet 9.50 inches in the shot put.

The girls also gained top spots in discuss with Skye Sanders taking 3rd with a 64 feet 6 inches throw, while India Seals earned 4th with a 34 feet 1 inch throw.

In the boys long jump, Tyler Corn took 3rd place jumping 12 feet 6 inches.

The Okmulgee Roadrunners not only took home top honors in field events but had several runners place in track events. Abigail Harris placed 5th in the girls 15-16 100 meter race. Harris clocked in at 13.66 seconds, coming in just 0.8 seconds behind 4th place OKC Fuel Elite runner Deasia Smith.

The Okmulgee Roadrunners are now setting their sights to the USA Track and Field Association JO Outdoor Track and Field Championship and other future meets. According to Coach Chakka Stokely, the long jumpers are looking promising for the upcoming state meet this year. This year’s championship meet will be held in Okmulgee at Harmon Stadium Saturday, June 15. Over 1,000 track athletes are expected to travel to Okmulgee for the event, which is set to start at 7 a.m. Below is a list of complete results for the Okmulgee Roadrunners from the Eastside Steppers Invitational meet:
