Okmulgee County Commissioners are asking county residents to stop driving around road closure signs, especially to stop stealing those signs during their Monday meeting.
“I think I’ve lost about $4,000 worth of signs,” District 2 Commissioner Robert Hardridge said.
While frustrated with the thefts, some of the commissioners had an amused outlook on the problem.
“Somebody somewhere out there is building a house out of those things I just know it,” District 1 Commissioner Ron Ballard said. “You’re going to be able to spot it from the air, it’ll have orange stripes going down the sides and will shine in the dark.”
Commissioners approved the following agenda items:
• Officer Reports for the month of May - County Clerk’s Office in the amount of $17,387.85 and Okmulgee County Health Department in the amount of $816.74.
• Blanket Purchase Orders - Morris News Legal Publications in the amount of $1,000.
• Agreement with BTC concerning new office phone system. This is for the sheriff’s office and is the same type of phone system which was recently installed for the jail.
• Contract for Juvenile Detention Services. This is a yearly agreement with Creek County.
• Detention Transportation Claim for OJA for the transportation of juveniles for the month of April in the amount of $1,011.58.
An award of Bid #14 for road materials for a six-month period has been tabled until the purchasing agent can go through the bids and make recommendations.
Okmulgee County Emergency Management and 911 Communications Director gave his report of the state of Okmulgee County following the severe weather experienced over the last few weeks.
“Waters going down and damage is going up,” Tim Craighton said.
Last week, Craighton asked those who have suffered damage from the storms to report it by either calling 211 or by going to damage.ok.gov.
“There haven’t been many people reporting damage, but the roads are doing bad and we’ve been getting reports about that,” Craighton said.
