OKLAHOMA CITY - The Henryetta Golden Knight tennis team came away with a team total of 19 points at last weekend's Class 4A state tennis championships at the OKC Tennis Center.

The 19-point total was good enough for the Knights' to finish tied for third overall with Grove in the team standings.

The Ada Cougars captured their fourth-straight state championship and 14th overall with 32 team points, followed by Crossings Christian in second with 24 points.

Byng was fifth in the team standings with 11 points.

The No. 2 Doubles team of Grant Holder and John Ritter were the top finishers for the Knights at the state tennis tournament, finishing runner-up at the 2-day event.

The duo's dreams of a state championship ended in the championship match, dropping a straight-set decision to Ada's Ryan McCortney and Noah Watkins - 6-1, 6-0.

Seniors Jordan Knox and Colten Wion closed out their high school tennis careers last Saturday, finishing third in No. 2 Singles and No. 1 Doubles, respectively.

The two HHS seniors missed ending their high school careers with state championships at the 2-day event in OKC with semifinal losses.

Knox dropped his semifinal match with Crossing Christian's Hunter Demundrun (6-4, 6-0) to drop into the third-place match in No. 2 Singles, while Wion and teammate Keaton Lollis suffered a 3-set loss to Grove's Mason Allen and Braden Wadley. Wion and Lollis took the first set 6-4, then suffered back-to-back 6-2 defeats in the final two sets to fall into the third-place match in No. 1 Doubles.

Freshman Jordan Osterdock dropped his opening match to Harrah's Caleb Hughey in three sets - 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, then rebounded in the consolation first round, defeating Oologah's Daniel Long in straight sets - 6-3, 7-6 - to continue his inaugural state tournament appearance. Osterdock's state tournament participation came to a close in the consolation quarterfinals, falling in straight sets - 6-1, 6-0 - to Chisholm's Caleb Todd.

Knox began his final state tournament appearance by defeating Oologah's Cameron Doyle in straight sets - 6-2, 6-0 - in the first round, then dominated Grove's Silas Rosiere - 6-0, 6-3 - in the quarterfinal round.

After his semifinal loss to Demundrun, Knox closed out his state tournament appearance by defeating Byng's T.J. Goodman in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) in the third-place match.

In No. 1 Doubles, Wion and Lollis notched a straight-set win over Wagoner's Braden Drake and Logan Sterling without losing a single game to their Bulldog foes in their first-round match.

The HHS duo dropped the first set in their quarterfinal match with Pauls Valley's Wyatt Cummings and Mathew Tice in a 7-6 tiebreaker, then avoided the quarterfinal loss by winning the next two sets by margins of 7-5 and 6-1, respectively.

Wion and Lollis rebounded from their semifinal loss by notching a straight-set win over Oologah's Konner Davis and Jared Taylor in the third-place match, winning the first set 7-5, then notching the third-place finish by winning the second set by a 6-3 margin.
