A Texas man is behind bars after he allegedly brandished a weapon to another motorist Wednesday afternoon in Okmulgee.
Around 2:30 p.m. on May 1, Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice reported Okmulgee County Communications Center issued a call reporting a black GMC SUV heading north on Highway 75 approaching Okmulgee.
“The driver reportedly had brandished a firearm at another driver,” Prentice said. “As officers were traveling to the scene, dispatch provided up-to-the-minute information updates.”
Okmulgee police and officers with the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office observed the vehicle in the area of 13th and Wood.
Prentice stated law enforcement observed numerous traffic violations while following the vehicle to a secure location to conduct a stop.
A traffic stop was made on the vehicle at Hayes and Wood.
According to Prentice, the driver did not stop for approximately a quarter mile. Officers then ordered the driver out of the vehicle and took him into custody.
“While taking the driver into custody,” the chief said, “he failed to follow commands and placed one hand under his person and resisted attempts to remove his hand. After a short time officers were able to take him into custody.”
During a search of the vehicle, multiple firearms were discovered.
The driver, Eric Nightingale, 67, was booked in the Okmulgee County Jail on complaints of Feloniously Pointing of a Firearm (two counts), DUI (drugs), Using Firearm while Committing Felony, Resisting Arrest and Driving Left of Center.
No bond amount or initial appearance date were known as of press time.
