DEWAR - The Dewar Lady Dragon slowpitch softball team took their first step in securing a state championship Tuesday evening with a 16-4 win over the Crowder Demonettes.

The run-rule victory came in the championship game of the Class 2A district tournament at Al Kessel Field in Dewar.

The Lady Dragons began their journey towards the district title with a 10-0 win over the Okay Lady Mustangs in the opening game of the 4-team tournament.

The other opening-round game saw Crowder thump the Watts Lady Engineers 15-2, then Okay avoided elimination with an 8-7 victory over Watts.
