DEWAR - The Dewar Dragons have dropped five of their last eight games, heading into Monday's road game at Wetumka.
The recent slump puts the Dewar diamond squad at 9-5 on the year after a 6-0 start.
After beginning the 2019 season with wins over Summit Christian (12-1), Midway (19-1), Henryetta (3-2), Paden (11-1, 19-6), and Weleetka (10-2), the Dragons dropped four-straight games in a span of eight days to sit at 6-4 on the young campaign.
The first defeat of the season came against Gore March 9 by a 14-8 margin. Two days later, the Dragons dropped a heart-breaking 8-7 decision to Stonewall.
The losing streak continued four days later with a 5-1 loss at home against Rattan. The following day saw the Dewar diamond squad suffer their fourth-straight loss - 6-4 to the Kiefer Trojans.
The Dragons snapped their 4-game losing streak last Monday with a 13-0 rout of Rock Creek at the Southeast Shootout in Valliant. Later in the day last Monday, the Dewar squad dropped a 13-5 decision to McAlester in Broken Bow to sit at 7-5 on the year.
The Dewar gentlemen closed out the Southeast Shootout with a 10-8 win over Marlow's JV last Tuesday in Valliant and an 18-13 victory over Coalgate last Wednesday to finish third at the 3-day tournament.
Against Gore, the top hitter for Dewar was Thomas Brownfield, who went 3 for 3 with three singles. The other base hits for the Dragons against Gore came on singles by Tyler Maldonado, Jentry Brison, Joey Fowler, Josh Maldonado, and Anthony Tabers and a double by Brett Haye
Against Stonewall, Brett Hayes was the top hitter for Dewar, going 2 for 2 with a pair of singles. The other base hits for the Dragons in the home contest came on singles by Thomas Brownfield, Jentry Brison, Joey Fowler, Baylor Selby, and Anthony Tabers.
Against Rattan, Brett Hayes once again led the offensive attack for the Dragons, going 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs. Shawn Maxwell (2 for 3, 2 singles) and Anthony Tabers (2 for 3, 2 singles) also recorded multi-hit games for Dewar against Rattan with two hits apiece.
Against Kiefer, Brett Hayes and Shawn Maxwell led Dewar with doubles, while the other Dragon base hits against the Trojans came on singles by Tyler Maldonado, Jentry Brison, Joey Fowler, and Zane Davis.
Against Rock Creek, Joey Fowler had the hot bat offensively for Dewar, finishing 3 for 3 with a pair of singles and a double. Shawn Maxwell also recorded a multi-hit game for the Dragons, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and 2 RBIs.
The other three Dewar hits against Rock Creek came on singles by Jentry Brison and Micah Cloud and a double by Brett Hayes.
Against McAlester, Brett Hayes led the Dewar offense, going 2 for 2 with a pair of singles and an RBI.
The other hits for the Dragons came on singles by Jentry Brison, Joey Fowler, and Micah Cloud.
Against Marlow's JV, the top hitter for Dewar was Jentry Brison, who went 3 for 4 with three singles and an RBI.
Shawn Maxwell (2 for 3, 2 singles, 3 RBIs), Brett Hayes (2 for 2, 2 singles, RBI), and Joey Fowler (2 for 4, 2 singles, RBI) also recorded multi-hit games for the Dragons with two hits each.
The final two Dewar hits against the Marlow JV came on singles by Anthony Tabers and Marshall Been.
Against Coalgate, Jentry Brison was tops offensively for Dewar, going 3 for 6 with three singles and an RBI.
Other Dewar batters with multi-hit games were Shawn Maxwell (2 for 5, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs), Joey Fowler (2 for 2, 2 singles, RBI), and Micah Cloud (2 for 4, 2 singles) with two hits apiece.
