DEWAR - The Dewar Dragons improved to 6-0 on the young 2019 season with three run-rule wins last Thursday and Friday at Wiley Ryal Park. The Dragons earned a pair of blowout victories over the Paden Pirates last Thursday - 19-4 and 11-1, respectively, then notched their sixth win of the season last Friday, defeating the visiting Weleetka Outlaws 11-2. The Dewar diamond squad kicked off the 2019 spring baseball season March 1 with a 12-0 run-rule victory over Summit Christian, then improved to 2-0 on the year last Tuesday 19-1 thrashing of Midway. The Dragons followed the rout of Midway with a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Henryetta Golden Knights last Tuesday for their third-straight victory to begin the year. The Dragons were scheduled to travel to Gore last Saturday and Depew on Monday. Results of those contests were not available at presstime. The Dewar squad was also scheduled to travel to Tushka on Tuesday before hosting a baseball festival this Friday and Saturday. In last Thursday's opening contest against Paden, the visitors got the scoring started with a run in the top of the first. The Paden lead did not last long, as the Dragons plated four runs in the last of the first, then added five in the second for a 9-1 advantage after two innings of action. Both teams tallied three runs in their half of the third to make it a 12-4 contest, while Dewar pushed across seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the finishing touches on the 19-4 victory. Joey Fowler worked the first three innings on the mound for Dewar to earn the pitching decision, allowing four runs on one hit, striking out four and walking four. Josh Maldonado worked the final two innings in relief, giving up one hit, while striking out three and walking three. The top hitter for the Dragons in the blowout victory was Anthony Tabers, who went 3 for 3 with three singles and 3 RBIs. Baylor Selby also recorded a multi-hit game for Dewar, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and an RBI. The other Dewar base hits against Paden came on singles by Maldonado, Micah Cloud, and Brett Hays and a 2-run single by Fowler. In the second game against Paden last Thursday, the Dragons jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first two innings, plating six runs in the home half of the first and adding three more in the second. Paden broke up the shutout bid with a run in the top of the third, while Dewar pushed across a run in each of the third and fourth innings to walk away with the 11-1 decision. Anthony Tabers went the distance on the mound for Dewar to earn the pitching decision, allowing one run on one hit, striking out seven and walking three in his five innings of work. Jentry Brison led the way offensively for the Dragons, going 3 for 3 at the plate with a pair of singles and a double. Thomas Brownfield (2 for 2, 2 singles) and Micah Cloud (2 for 2, single, double, 2 RBIs) also recorded multi-hit games for Dewar with two hits each. The other three hits for the Dragons against Paden came on a single by Joey Fowler and doubles by Tabers and Baylor Selby. In Friday's run-rule win over Weleetka, the Outlaws opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first. The Dragons answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the first, then added three in the second, one in the third, and four in the fourth for an 11-1 advantage. Weleetka managed one run in the top of the fifth to award the host Dewar Dragons the 11-1, run-rule, victory. Micah Cloud earned the pitching win for Dewar, allowing one run on one hit, striking out nine, walking two, and hitting a batter in four innings of work.
