Henryetta High School’s Knight Brigade band was presented with a special citation from the Oklahoma House of Representatives on Thursday.
The citation was given to the Knight Brigade for the accomplishment of being the only high school band in the state that will attend and perform in Washington, D.C. at the upcoming National Memorial Day Parade.
This is the second time the band has been asked to perform during the annual parade.
The parade draws the attention of Americans to the true meaning behind the holiday, to honor all the men and woman in the military who have served and perished in order for us to retain our freedom.
Henryetta band members, boosters and volunteers have worked hard over the past year with various fundraising events from food sales to yard sales to car washes and much more in order to prepare for the trip in May.
Rep. Scott Fetgatter (R-Dist. 16) read and presented the special citation to Knight Brigade Director Alan Montgomery as band members, supporters and other legislators listened and watched.
The National Memorial Day Parade, to be televised on various stations, will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 27.
