A traffic stop on Interstate 40 resulted in two arrests after marijuana and paraphernalia were discovered in the vehicle.
The arrest happened Feb. 4 at approximately 4:54 p.m. after an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper observed a white Lexus traveling eastbound on the Interstate 40.
According to the affidavit, the officer observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed while he was sitting in the center medium.
During the traffic stop the trooper made contact with driver Sergio
SERGIO MARTINA MENDIOLA MOORE
Mendiola and requested he provide his driver’s license as part of the stop. Mendiola provided a suspended Georgia driver’s license. There was also a front seat passenger who was later identified as Martina Moore.
According to documentation provided by the trooper at this point in the traffic stop he observed that both driver and passenger were shaking uncontrollably and he detected the smell of marijuana within the vehicle.
When asked if there was anything illegal on his person or within the vehicle, Mendiola stated there was nothing illegal after which the trooper was given permission to search the vehicle Mendiola mentioned there was a little marijuana in the glove box of the vehicle.
After going back to the car, the officer reportedly asked Moore if there was something illegal in the car and was informed that there was something in a suitcase from California but Moore did not know how much there was.
A search of the vehicle yielded a large bag in the glove box containing a bag of 14 grams of marijuana, three bags of THC gummies, three jars of marijuana and a blue bag with marijuana. There was also a THC vial and a smoking device loose in the glove box.Another THC vial attached to a smoking device was located inside Moore’s purse, the court information stated.
The trunk of the vehicle was also searched and a suitcase was discovered including clothing, a USPS mailing box, nine Cali brand bags of marijuana with 14 grams each, one black pill bottle with 10 grams of marijuana, 12 THC vials and a glass tube with a pre-rolled blunt. Inside the USPS mailing box was 142 THC vials, five pre-rolled blunts and a black pill bottle with 10 grams of marijuana inside.
Mendiola and Moore were placed under arrest. Inside the car along with the driver and passenger were Mendiola’s 17-year-old brother and Moore’s three-year-old son. Everyone in the car was transported to the Henryetta Police Department where DHS took custody of the children.
Mendiola and Moore were then transported to the Okmulgee County Jail.
Moore is being held on possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, child neglect and possession of paraphernalia and is being held on a $21,000 bond.
Mendiola is being help on possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, child neglect, possession of paraphernalia and driving under suspension and is being held on a $38,000 bond.
Their next court date will be Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. before Judge Ramirez.
