OKMULGEE - Preston came away with a sweep of the 3-point competition last Saturday at the 2019 Muscogee (Creek) Nation Okmulgee County Basketball Tournament at the Mvskoke Dome.
Seniors Aiyonna Tecumseh and Turner Howk reigned supreme in the long-distance shootout of the week-long tournament.
Tecumseh captured her third-straight long-range championship with a 10-5 win over Morris’ Madison Atwell in the girls finals, while Howk bested Beggs’ Blake Gomez 18-6 in the boys finals.
In the girls division, Tecumseh advanced to the finals of the 3-point competition with a first-round win over Schulter’s Malaki Hedrick, then edged out Henryetta’s Kaylie Hamric in the semifinal round.
Atwell advanced to the championship round with wins over Okmulgee’s Kailey Ward and Wilson’s Autumn Barnard, respectively.
In the boys division, Howk defeated Henryetta’s Daniel Bear in the first round, then topped Okmulgee’s Ta-Ron Fultz in the semifinal round that saw Howk knock down 20 3-point baskets during the 1-minute round.
Gomez reached the long-distance finals with a first-round win over Austin Piña of Schulter and a semifinal-round victory over Dewar’s Dustin Blood.
The other 3-point competitors in the girls division were Moiya Phillips of Beggs and Savannah Been of Dewar.
The other 3-point competitors in the boys division were John Berryhill of Wilson and Christian Stacy of Morris.
