DEWAR - The Dewar varsity basketball teams kicked off the second half of their 2018-19 season last Friday with a pair of double-digit victories over the visiting Weleetka Outlaws and Lady Outlaws.

The Lady Dragons (6-3) got back on the winning track following three-straight losses at the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa December 27-29 with a 57-39 victory in the opening contest, while the Dragons improved to 7-2 on the year with a 73-27 drubbing of the visiting Outlaws in the nightcap.

The Dewar cage squads were back in action on Tuesday with a trip to Wetumka for a showdown with the Wetumka Chieftains and Lady Chieftains.

The Dragons and Lady Dragons will close out the week at the Jim Walling Classic basketball tournament in Earlsboro this Thursday-Saturday.

The Dewar ladies will open tournament play Thursday at 10 a.m. against the Varnum Lady Whippet JV squad. The Dewar gentlemen will begin their tournament participation Thursday at 8:30 p.m. against the host Earlsboro Wildcats.

In last Friday's girls game against Weleetka, the Lady Dragons took the opening frame by a 16-10 margin, then edged past the Lady Outlaws 11-10 for a 27-20 halftime advantage.

The visitors came out of the third quarter with a 14-13 margin to make it a 40-34 lead for the host Dewar ladies with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

The Lady Dragons put the finishing touches on their double-digit victory by outscoring the Lady Outlaws 17-5 in the final stanza for the decisive 57-39 outcome.

Skye Been led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. Savannah Been and Morgan Britt also reached double figures for the victorious Lady Dragons with 12 points apiece.

Skyler Randall was next in scoring for the Dewar ladies with eight, followed by Noelani Corbin with six.

In the nightcap, the Dragons came out of the opening frame with a narrow 12-8 margin. The Dewar gentlemen increased their lead to double digits - 33-16 - at halftime after outscoring the Outlaws 21-8 in the second period.

The Dragons took a commanding 55-18 advantage into the final eight minutes of regulation after taking the third quarter by an astounding 22-2 margin.

The Dewar cage squad put the finishing touches on the blowout victory by doubling up the Outlaws 18-9 in the final stanza to earn their seventh win of the 2018-19 campaign - 73-27.

Jentry Brison led the Dragon scoring attack with a game-high 18 points, courtesy of six 3-point baskets. Joey Fowler also reached double figures for the Dewar gentlemen with 14.
