OKTAHA - The Henryetta varsity basketball teams traveled here on Tuesday for a non-conference battle with the host Oktaha Tigers and Lady Tigers. The trip was not fruitful for the Knights and Lady Knights, as both HHS cage squads dropped single-digit setbacks to their non-conference foes. The Lady Knights remained winless on the year with their third-straight 3-point loss, falling by a 42-39 outcome in the opening contest. The Knights fell to 1-4 on the season in the nightcap, dropping a 59-51 decision to the host Tigers. The Henryetta squad will close out their first-half schedule this Tuesday evening with a trip to Morris for a county showdown with their arch rivals, the Morris Eagles and Lady Eagles. Tuesday's contest will get started with the girls game at 6:30 p.m. followed by the boys game at approximately 8 p.m. in Morris. In Tuesday's girls game at Oktaha, the Lady Knights took the opening frame by a 9-7 margin, then were outscored 16-5 in the second period to go into the halftime break down by nine, 23-14. The Henryetta ladies cut the deficit to seven, 28-21, heading into the final eight minutes of regulation after edging the Lady Tigers 7-5 in the third quarter. The Lady Kights put up 18 points in the final frame, but Oktaha tallied 14 points in the period to hand the Henryetta cage squad the 42-39 setback. Lauren Lee led the Lady Knight scoring with 16. Kaylie Hamric just missed double-digit scoring with nine. Other HHS scorers were Kim Fowler with eight, Darien Christer five, and Katelyn Dwiggins three. Oktaha was led in scoring by Dickson with nine and Fewel with eight. In the boys contest against Oktaha, the Knights trailed 17-8 after one and 31-17 at halftime. Oktaha took the third quarter by a 19-11 margin to send the non-conference battle to the final frame with Henryetta trailing by 22 points, 50-28. The Knights turned the tables offensively in the fourth quarter, outscoring the host Tigers 23-9 to come up on the short end of a 59-51 outcome. Daniel Bear was tops in scoring for Henryetta with a team-best 15 points. Micah Lowe joined Bear in double-digit scoring with 12. The remaining points for the Knights against Oktaha came on eight points by Alex Hudson, six points by Drew Brown, four points each by Jerad Fife and Colten Wion, and two points by Jordan Osterdock. The top scorers for Oktaha were Fry and Johnson with 18 points, followed by Watson with 10.
