HENRYETTA - The Henryetta varsity basketball team suffered a pair of double-digit losses to county foe Preston here Tuesday evening. The Lady Knights remained winless on the season with a 64-46 setback in the opening contest, while the Knights dropped to 1-2 on the year after coming up on the short end of a 79-68 outcome in the nightcap. Henryetta will return to action tonight with a home battle with the Kellyville Ponies and Lady Ponies, beginning with the girls game at 6:30 p.m. The boys contest against Kellyville is set for an approximate 8 p.m. tip time. The Knights and Lady Knights will also be on the road Tuesday, traveling to Oktaha for a battle with the Oktaha Tigers and Lady Tigers. In Tuesday's girls contest, the visiting Lady Pirates came out of the opening period with a 20-11 advantage, then went into halftime ahead 41-24 after taking the second quarter by a 21-13 margin. The Preston ladies extended their lead to 54-34, heading into the final eight minutes of regulation after outscoring the host Lady Knights 13-10 in the third stanza. Henryetta managed a 12-10 advantage in the final frame to fall by a 64-46 margin. Henreytta was led in scoring by Lauren Lee with a team-best 16 points. Kaylie Hamric also recorded double-digit scoring for the Lady Knights in the county showdown, finishing with 12 points. Other HHS scorers were Chelsea Harjo and Danielle LaSarge-Taylor with four apiece, Jenna Berryhill three, and Kim Fowler, Bayliegh Nye, and Darien Christer two each. Preston's top scorer was Euniece Leach, who finished with a game-high 21 points. Abbie Long (15) and Rylee Pinkston (12) also reached double figures for the victorious Lady Pirate cage squad. Other Preston scorers against Henryetta were Aiyonna Tecumseh with seven, Aaliyah Harrison four, Maycie Jones and Kaelyn Roberts two each, and Ahmiah Tiger one. In Tuesday's boys game, the Knights were edged by their county foes 18-14 in the first quarter then went into the lockerroom trailing by 15 - 44-29 - after being outscored 26-15 in the second period. The visitors came out of the back-and-forth third quarter with a slim 19-17 advantage to increase their lead to 17 points, 63-46, with eight minutes remaining in regulation. The host Knights attempted to overcome the double-digit deficit in the final frame, putting up 22 points in the period. Preston countered with 16 points in the stanza to walk away with the 79-68 decision. Henryetta's top scorer was Jerad Fife with 16 points. Alex Hudson was next with 12, followed by Drew Brown and Colten Wion with 11 each. Daniel Bear rounded out the double-digit scorers for the host Knights with 10 points. Micah Lowe (6) and Jordan Osterdock (2) rounded out the HHS scoring against Preston. Leading the way offensively for the Pirates were Jarron Williams and Turner Howk with 24 and 21 points, respectively. Anthony Craig and Jaden Skupien also scored in double figures for Preston in the county battle with 10 points each. The remainder of the Preston scoring came on six points by Jackson Teegarden, four points by Cace Love, and two points apiece by Jarvis Demery and Lance Porter. ---
