Donations and school staff volunteers are needed for the School Trauma Kit Project in Henryetta.
Organizer of the project and Henryetta resident, Alan Kerby, continues to assemble kits and provide Stop The Bleed training at no charge to staff members.
Upon completion of the training, participants receive a certificate.
In the past few months, only three staff members at Henryetta Public Schools have volunteered and completed training. Training and participation has come to a complete halt as staff volunteers simply aren’t signing up.
Kerby continues to await volunteers. He plans to train every member of the staff, including maintenance, teachers and other support personnel, until everyone is certified in Stop The Bleed training.
On Monday, Kerby presented three large trauma kits to the elementary school, middle school and high school in Henryetta.
In addition to the large trauma kits, the three participating teachers who completed their training each received the smaller trauma kits for their classrooms.
So many more donations are needed in order to provide trauma kits for the entire Henryetta Public Schools campus. Staff participation is also greatly needed, Kerby said.
For months, Kerby has been attending and organizing meetings with various groups, clubs, organizations and agencies throughout the county as well as state legislators asking for support of the School Trauma Kit Project.
Purpose of the project is to provide emergency medical care in schools in the event of an accident or school threat until first responders can arrive on the scene.
Kerby adds that if a community group, club or organization is interested in Stop The Bleed training, contact him and he will provide it free of charge.
