Annual Red Ribbon Week activities begin Monday, Oct. 29 and continue through Friday, Nov. 2 at Henryetta Public Schools with various themes for each day.
On Monday, the theme is “Drugs are ‘RED’iculous.” Students are encouraged to wear as much red clothing as they can. Prizes will be awarded to students who are wearing the most red.
Tuesday is “Crazy Hat Day” in which students will wear fun, crazy or silly hats.
“Monster Mash” and Halloween parties will be held Wednesday with students (and staff) wearing their favorite Halloween costumes. Monster Mash will be held for 5th Grade from 8:05 to 8:50 a.m., 4th Grade from 8:50 a.m. to 9:35 a.m.; 3rd Grade from 9:35 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.; 2nd Grade from 10:20 a.m. to 11:05 a.m.; P3 from 11:25 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Pre-K from 12 p.m. to 12:40 p.m.; Kindergarten from 12:40 p.m. to 1:25 p.m.; 1st Grade from 1:25 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. A parade will be held for Kindergarten through 5th Grades from 2:10 p.m. to 2:40 p.m.
Crazy sunglasses will be worn on Thursday during “Shade Out Drugs.”
“Spirit Day – Knight Out Drugs” is the them for Friday. All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear black and gold.
Red Ribbon Week began in 1988 through the National Family Partnership. The celebration began in honor of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena who was killed in 1985 by drug traffickers in which he was investigating in Mexico.
Thousands, even millions of people across the United States celebrate the annual drug prevention awareness campaign.
