Area firefighters responding to a structure fire this past Saturday discovered the body of a deceased man. According to the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office, the department responded on Sept. 22 to a fire in the 24000 block of Wilson Road in Henryetta. The property was located just south of Wilson Public School and Wilson Fire Department.
The fire was reported just before 11 a.m. While fire departments extinguished the blaze, they located the body of the man inside of a vehicle.
Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) Investigator Duston Todd said the intial investigation suggested the subject died from an apparent gunshot wound, and no foul play was suspected.
The Oklahoma State Fire Marshal's Office was requested to assist in the investigation.
In speaking with Okmulgee County Sheriff Eddy Rice on Tuesday morning, he said at this time, evidence is suggesting that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot.
An investigation is still ongoing by the OCSO.
Assisting at the scene were the Dewar, Henryetta and Wilson Fire Departments and Okmulgee County EMS.
