HARTSHORNE - The Henryetta Golden Knight varsity football team dropped to 1-2 on the year with a 50-13 defeat last Friday night to the host Hartshorne Miners. The 37-point setback came in the non-district finale for the Knights. The Henryetta squad led 13-8 with under five minutes remaining in the first half, only to watch as Hartshorne rattled off 42 unanswered points the remainder of the contest to hand the Knights their second loss of the 2018 campaign. The Knights will look to get back in the win column this Friday night when they play host to the very talented Okemah Panthers in the District 2A-2 opener. Friday's district opener against Okemah is set to get started at 7 p.m. at historic Cameron Field in Henryetta. In last Friday's non-district finale against Hartshorne, the Knights broke a 0-0 tie at the 9:27 mark of the second quarter when Jeremiah Boyles hauled in a 29-yard TD pass from Jakob White. Jacob Collett toed the PAT kick to give the visiting Knights the 7-0 advantage. Hartshorne took over the lead at 8-7 with 7:44 remaining in the first half on a 25-yard TD run and successful 2-point conversion run attempt by No. 7. White put the Knights back on top, 13-8, with a 29-yard aerial strike to Daniel Bear with 4:55 left in the second quarter. The try for two was unsuccessful, leaving the Henryetta lead at five. Two minutes later, Hartshorne took over the lead for good on a 29-yard TD run by Bryson Cervantes. Cervantes then connected with Sebastian Rodriguez on the conversion attempt to make it a 16-13 contest. With 1:10 remaining before halftime, Cervantes fired a 17-yard TD pass to Wyatt Baker to increase the Hartshorne lead. Cervantes then crossed the goal line on the conversion attempt to send the game into the intermission with Henryetta trailing 24-13. The Miners extended their lead to 32-13 at the 5:34 mark of the third quarter on a 92-yard TD run by No. 7. Cervantes found John Beauchamp in the end zone for the conversion to push the Hartshorne advantage to 19 points. Cervantes' 12-yard TD run with six seconds remaining in the third made it a 38-13 contest. The host Miners got a 6-yard run by No. 7 at 4:22 of the fourth and a 71-yard interception return by No. 22 with 17 seconds left in regulation to put the finishing touches on the 50-13 decision. Despite the loss, the Knights finished with 370 yards of total offense, including a season-high 287 yards passing. Henryetta quarterbacks Jakob White (16-33-2, 261, 2 TDs) and Riley Pixler (1-3-1, 26) combined to complete 17 of 36 passes with 2 TDs and 3 interceptions. Jordan Hart led the rushing attack with 17 carries for 100 yards. Bear (4-71, TD), Aiden Macaluso (3-68), and Boyles (3-54, TD) led the receiving totals for Henryetta in the loss. ---Hartshorne 50, Henryetta 13 Henryetta - 0 - 13 - 0 - 0 (13) Hartshorne - 0 - 24 - 14 - 12 (50)
