MORRIS - The Dewar Lady Dragon fastpitch softball team came away with a runner-up finish at last weekend's Morris Fastpitch Softball Tournament.

The Lady Dragons suffered a first-round loss to Sperry last Thursday, then earned a spot in the tournament title game after winning three-straight elimination games in the 6-team, 2-day, event.

After the 10-4 loss to Sperry, the Dewar ladies edged past Muldrow by a 7-5 margin later in the day last Thursday then notched back-to-back 1-run wins over Liberty and Sperry, respectively, last Saturday to punch their ticket to the championship game, meeting the Drumright Lady Tornadoes and needing two wins in order to come away with the tournament crown. The Lady Dragons had their championship hopes derailed with a heartbreaking 5-3 setback to the Lady Tornadoes.

Below are summaries from last weekend's participation at the Morris Fastpitch Softball Tournament.

First Round

Sperry 10, Dewar 4

Sperry opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first. The score remained at 1-0 in favor of the Lady Pirates until the bottom of the third when the Lady Dragons plated four runs in the frame for a 4-1 margin. Sperry tied the game at 4-4 with three runs in the top of the fourth then added six runs in the top of the fifth to hand the Dewar ladies the 10-4, opening-round, loss.

Skyler Randall suffered the pitching loss for Dewar, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and three walks in five innings of work.

Offensively, the Lady Dragons were led by Randall (2 for 3, single, double, RBI) and Savannah Been (2 for 2, 2 singles) with two hits apiece. The other base hits for the Dewar squad in the first-round contest came on singles by Autumn Campbell, Staejha Mack, and Talyn Been, an RBI single by Noelani Corbin, and an RBI double by Morgan Britt.

Other baserunners for Dewar against Sperry were Campbell (fielder's choice), Corbin (dropped third strike), Randall (fielder's choice), Savannah Been (walk), and Kaley Ashlock (walk).

Loser's Bracket First Round

Dewar 7, Muldrow 5

The Lady Dragons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of a 3-run home run by Skyler Randall. Muldrow made it a 3-1 contest with a run in the bottom of the first, then both teams tallied three runs in their half of the second for a 6-4 Dewar advantage. Muldrow cut the Dewar lead in half, 6-5, with a run in the bottom of the third, while the Lady Dragons tacked on an insurance run in the top of the fourth to walk away with the 7-5 victory after four innings due to the time limit having expired at the conclusion of Muldrow's at-bat in the bottom of the fourth.

Randall worked two innings of relief to earn the pitching win for Dewar. The Lady Dragon hurler gave up one run on two hits, striking out one and walking one in her relief appearance. Morgan Britt allowed four runs on two hits with three walks in two innings of work for Dewar.

Besides Randall's 3-run home run in the first, the other Dewar base hits in the elimination game came on singles by Talyn Been, Savannah Been, Noelani Corbin, and Staejha Mack and a 2-run single by Britt.

Other Lady Dragon baserunners against Muldrow were Britt (fielder's choice, error), Mack (walk), Talyn Been (walk), Savannah Been (hit by pitch), and Kobee Hewitt (walk).

An RBI double by Morgan Britt with no outs in the last of the fifth provided the game-winning run for the Dewar ladies.

Skyler Randall allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts, four walks, and one hit batter in five innings of work to earn the pitching win.

Britt also had a single to finish 2 for 2 at the plate for Dewar. Savannah Been also went 2 for 2 for the Lady Dragons with a pair of singles.

The Dewar ladies were only able to manage one run in the top of the seventh to come up on the short end of a 5-3 decision.

Skyler Randall gave up five runs on 13 hits in six innings of work, striking out three and walking three, to absorb the pitching loss for Dewar.

Noelani Corbin led the offensive attack for the Lady Dragons, going 2 for 4 with a single, double, and RBI. The other base hits for Dewar in the title game came on singles by Talyn Been, Morgan Britt, and Staejha Mack, an RBI single by Randall, and triples by Savannah Been and KiKi Carter.
