HENRYETTA - The Henryetta Lady Knights earned an 8-1 victory over their county rivals, the Beggs Lady Demons, here on Tuesday evening.

The host Lady Knights (16-6) built an 8-0 advantage in the county battle and helped their chances of earning a spot in this year's Class 3A regional tournament. The Lady Knights are sitting in second place in the 3A-6 district standings following the win, improving to 5-2 in district play.

The Henryetta squad were in action this Thursday and Saturday, competing at the Tahlequah Sequoyah Softball Tournament. The Lady Knights will travel to Beggs on Monday for a rematch with the Lady Demons, then will host Eufaula on Tuesday before closing out their regular-season schedule next Thursday in Warner.

In Tuesday's county showdown, freshman pitcher Avery Miller shined in the circle for Henryetta, striking out 13, walking two, and hitting two in seven innings of work, allowing one run on four hits. The 13 strikeouts is a season-best for the freshman hurler. Miller's previous best strikeout performance was nine on three separate occasions - August 18 against Heavener, September 1 against Wetumka, and Monday against Wetumka.

The host Lady Knights opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. After a scoreless second and top of third, the Henryetta ladies pushed across three runs in the home half of the third to extend their lead to 4-0 after three innings of action.

The Lady Knights made it a 7-0 advantage with three runs in the last of the fifth, then capped off their scoring with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Beggs tallied its only run of the contest in the top of the seventh, but the Henryetta ladies walked away with the 8-1 victory.

The Lady Knights finished with 13 hits in the contest, led by Jalynn Joslin, who went 3 for 4 with three singles.

The other Henryetta players with multi-hit games against Beggs were Miller (2 for 3, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs), Bailee Worlow (2 for 4, 2 singles), and Katelyn Dwiggins (2 for 4, single, triple, 3 RBIs) with two hits apiece.

The final four base hits for the Lady Knights came on singles by Hulleah Wincle, Kasedi Gobin, Kaylie Hamric, and Lexi Lollis.

Miller also reached on an error, while Gobin also reached base on a fielder's choice.
