SEMINOLE - The Dewar Dragons opened 2018 with a narrrow 38-36 victory over the Strother Yellowjackets last Friday night at Strother High School.

The Dragons trailed 36-32 late in the fourth quarter when sophomore quarterback Joey Fowler raced 57 yards to paydirt for the game-winning touchdown.

Fowler finished with 252 yards rushing on 20 carries and scored three times on the ground. The Dewar signal caller also completed 12 of 20 passes for 242 yards and 2 TDs.

After trailing 14-12 after the first quarter, the Dragons outscored the Yellowjackets 14-6 in the second stanza for a 26-20 advantage.

Fowler put the first points on the scoreboard for the Dewar gridiron squad in 2018, scampering 68 yards on a QB keeper. The next Dewar score in the opening quarter came on a 6-yard TD run by Shawn Maxwell.

In the second quarter, Fowler connected with senior tight end Braxton Loyd on a pair of long-distance aerial scoring strikes. The first TD pass to Loyd went for 47 yards, while the second scoring connection went for 38 yards.

Fowler crossed the goal line on a 1-yard QB sneak play in the third quarter for the fifth Dewar touchdown of the contest.

Strother found the end zone on TD passes of 34, 10, and 10 yards, respectively, by QB Jaxon Douthit. Two of Douthit's passing touchdowns went to Trenton Wolfe, while the other TD pass was completed to Zach Roach.

John Palacios rambled 43 yards to paydirt in the third quarter for the host Yellowjackets, while the final Strother touchdown came on a 42-yard interception return by Zach Shelton in the fourth quarter. The Dragons were back in action on Thursday, hosting the Caddo Bruins, in the 2018 home opener. ---
