Okmulgee County as well as grocery, convenience and liquor stores across the state are making final preparations for the new liquor law that will be implemented in October. On the first of October, stores will be allowed to sell wine as well as strong beer.
Low-point beer, designated to range between 0.5 percent to 3.2 percent alcohol by weight, will not be distributed as of October.
According to State Question 792, wine and full-strength beer can be sold in grocery and convenience stores.
Those opposing the state question commented that the liquor stores infuse the market and by the addition of grocery and convenience stores will create an unfair competition.
Many supporters of SQ 792, said that it is time for a change as the state’s liquor laws haven’t been updated for 60 years.
