Henryetta’s annual Labor Day celebration officially begins Thursday, Aug. 30 with the return of the Great Plains Amusements Carnival located just behind Cheezies Pizza and O’Reilly Auto Parts.
Carnival features include rides for all ages, carnival food, games and much more!
Participants can enjoy all-access to every carnival with the purchase of a $25 wristband Thursday through Saturday. All other rides can be enjoyed by purchasing the correct number of tickets required to ride.
Ticket prices are $3 per ticket, $25 for nine tickets or $40 for 25 rides.
Carnival hours include Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Labor Day from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Labor Day Gospel Concert will be held in the Henryetta High School Auditorium on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
Jim Shoulders Living Legends Rodeo is planned for this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 1 and Sept. 2, at 8 p.m. nightly at the Jim Shoulders Living Legends Arena located at Historic Nichols Park.
First Family Federal Credit Union will host their 6th Annual Car & Bike Show on Monday, Sept. 3 at 8 a.m. at 402 E. Main St. Judging divisions include pre-1992 and post-1992. Several vendors will be on site. Registration will be available at that time.
The 2nd Annual Butch Sullivan “Love Wins” Horseshoe Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 2 at the vacant lot between B and C streets just east of Kennedy Lumber on Trudgeon St. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the tournament begins at 2 p.m. This will be a mixed, double-elimination tournament available to men and women, ages 13 and above. There will be a $10 entry fee with all proceeds going to support ERT Youth Ministries. First place will win $200. Second place will win $100 and third place wins $50.
On Sept. 3, the Labor Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. Participants must register between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and line up. Politicians should line up on Broadway, headed east, between 10th and 13th streets. Regular decorated cars and golf carts should line up on Broadway between 8th and 9th streets, headed west. Main floats should line up between 10th and 13th streets, headed east on either side of Main Street but should not block the middle of the street. Bands should line up on 10th up through Trudgeon. Pageant contestants should line up on 10th between Main and Broadway streets. Motorcycles and bicycles should line up on the west side of the filling station at 10th and Main. Horses should be lined up near the tennis courts. Parade forms are available at the Henryetta Free-Lance office at 302 W. Main.
All those who attend the parade are encouraged to stand and show their support and respect for the Color Guard as they travel along Main Street during the parade.
A delicious BBQ lunch will be held starting at 11 a.m. at the Henryetta Civic Center for $5 per meal.
Various Labor Day games are planned for Sept. 3 from 12:45 to 3:45 p.m. at Cameron Field. Games will include a softball toss, egg toss, rolling pin toss, brick throw, water balloon toss, penny hunt, wheel barrow race, pass and punt and a three-legged race. Frank Nelson plans to lead the games. And several volunteers are still needed to help out.
Entertainment will be provided by Bo Posey on Sept. 3 one hour prior to the parade and at the football field.
There will be a baby crawling contest and trophy presentation (including parade float winners) at Cameron Field at 6:30 p.m.
Shane Sanford, owner of Main Street Bowl, will present an amazing fireworks show that will begin just after dark.
During this annual Henryetta Labor Day event, there will be various vendors available that will offer snow cones, fried pies, Scentsy, school fundraisers and more. There will also be a judge available to offer advice and answer questions.
