SAPULPA - The Henryetta Lady Knight fastpitch softball team came away with a 2-1 record at last weekend's Kellyville Softball Festival. The Lady Knights began their 3-game festival schedule last

SAPULPA - The Henryetta Lady Knight fastpitch softball team came away with a 2-1 record at last weekend's Kellyville Softball Festival.

The Lady Knights began their 3-game festival schedule last Friday with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Sapulpa Lady Chieftains.

The lone loss for the Henryetta ladies came later in the day last Friday, falling by a 4-1 margin to the Poteau Lady Pirates.

The Lady Knights rebounded from the loss to Poteau by defeating the Heavener Lady Wolves 9-1 in their lone festival game on Saturday.

The Henryetta squad returned to action on Monday with a home game against the Oktaha Lady Tigers and will be back in action on Friday with a trip to Morris for a showdown with their arch rivals, the Morris Lady Eagles.

In last Friday's festival meeting with Sapulpa, the Lady Chieftains opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second.

The score remained at 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth when the Lady Knights tallied a run in the frame to deadlock the score at 1-1.

With the score tied at 1-1 after the fifth inning, the contest went into international tiebreaker rules in the sixth inning, meaning that each team had a runner placed at second base to begin their half of the inning. After the Henryetta defense kept Sapulpa off the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, the Lady Knights delivered the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame. With Kasedi Gobin standing on second to begin the bottom of the sixth, Katelyn Dwiggins advanced the runner to third with a well-placed sacrifice bunt.

A walk to Hulleah Wincle put runners at the corners with one out in the frame. Lexi Lollis reached on a fielder's choice groundout that erased Gobin at the plate. On the play, Wincle moved to third, while Lollis advanced all the way to second. Kaylie Hamric roped the first pitch she saw into right field to score Wincle with the game-winning run, awarding the Lady Knights with the 2-1 victory.

Avery Miller worked all six innings in the circle to earn the pitching win for Henryetta. The freshman hurler allowed one run on five hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Jalynn Joslin led the hit parade for the Lady Knights, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles.

Besides Hamric's game-winning RBI single, the other base hits for Henryetta came on singles by Gobin, Dwiggins, and Wincle.

Besides Lollis' fielder's choice groundout in the sixth, the other HHS baserunners against Sapulpa were Miller (walk), Wincle (walk, fielder's choice), Brittani Hembree (error), and Bailee Worlow (error).

In the loss to Poteau, the only run for Henryetta came in the bottom of the third that made it a 3-1 deficit for the Lady Knights. Poteau broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the third, then added one run in the top of the fourth to hand the Henryetta ladies the 4-1 setback.

Avery Miller allowed four runs on one hit, striking out six, walking three, and hitting three in four innings of work to suffer the pitching loss.

The only two base hits for the Lady Knights against Poteau came on a single by Jalynn Joslin and a triple by Miller.

Other baserunners for Henryetta in the loss were Miller (walk), Bailee Worlow (walk), Kasedi Gobin (walk, fielder's choice), Hulleah Wincle (walk), Kaylie Hamric (walk), and Katelyn Dwiggins (fielder's choice).

Against Heavener, both teams tallied a run in their half of the second. Henryetta regained the lead at 4-1 with three runs in the top of the third, then added five more in the fifth for the 9-1 decision.

Avery Miller went the distance in the circle for Henryetta to earn the pitching victory. The freshman right-hander allowed one run on four hits, striking out nine in five innings of work.

Hulleah Wincle led the Henryetta offense, going 3 for 3 with three singles and 4 RBIs. Jalynn Joslin (2 for 4, 2 singles, RBI), Bailee Worlow (2 for 4, 2 singles, RBI), and Katelyn Dwiggins (2 for 2, 2 singles) also recorded multi-hit games for the Lady Knights with two hits apiece.

The other four hits for Henryetta came on a single by Kasedi Gobin, RBI singles by Kaylie Hamric and Brittani Hembree, and an RBI double by Miller.

Miller and Dwiggins also reached base on walks, while Lexi Lollis reached on a fielder's choice.
