A lengthy discussion was held by the Henryetta Board of Education regarding changing Homecoming from football and basketball to an all-activity Homecoming to increase student involvement which would include attendants from each school activity for the 2018-2019 school year.

Board members approved the all-activity Homecoming.

Henryetta Public Schools teacher Tracy Sontag said that the thought was to create one large Homecoming event instead of all separate events with each group having their own king and queen and the school to vote on an all-school king and queen.

Sontag said that this would help create a bigger parade that will travel down main street and get more volunteers and groups involved. She said that any parade floats would be welcome, from elementary through high school.

Kirk Ruth was approved as an adjunct teacher for three periods of middle school Mathematics for the 2018-2019 school year.

A contract between SkyRider Communications and Henryetta Public Schools for the 2018-2019 school year was approved. According to Supt. Dwane Noble, Henryetta Softball Coach Ryan Swallow wants to use software to view games and keep stats and scores using GameChanger. GameChanger is a mobile app and website that provides scorekeeping, stats, Live GameStreams and recap stories to baseball, softball and basketball teams and their fans.

Other agenda items approved by board members included:

• Encumbrances and financial reports for the 2018-2019 school year.

• Closure of an old warrant bank account with First National Bank that hasn’t been used in several years.

• Hours and Days Schedule for the 2018-2019 school year.

• Fundraisers for the 2018-2019 school year with a notation that the cheer fundraiser go through the school.

• Agreement between Standley Systems and Henryetta Public Schools for copier and maintenance services for the 2018-2019 school year.

• Purchase from Peak Uptime for upgrades for the firewall and content filters for the football and baseball fields.

• Contract between Jamie Brison and Henryetta Public Schools for Special Education Hearing Impairment Consulting for the 2018-2019 school year.

• Renewal Agreement between OSU Institute of Technology’s Adult Basic Education Program for the 2018-2019 school year.

• Students Handbooks for the 2018-2019 school year with an amendment regarding Homecoming.

• Faculty Handbooks for the 2018-2019 school year.

Minutes of the July 11 regular meeting, June 25 special board meeting, July 3 special board meeting, July 3 regular board meeting, July 19 special board meeting and Aug. 2 special board meeting were approved.

Domonique Treagesser and STEM students were scheduled on the agenda to address the board regarding their trip to Atlanta for the TSA National Competition. Board members tabled the item until the next board meeting.

There was no HESA Report, Athletic Director’s Report or Maintenance Director’s Report.

In the HEA Report, a union president from Stillwater came down and it was a good visit.

Middle School Principal Brad Wion said he was excited about classes starting.

Elementary Principal Jayme Matlock said she held a faculty meeting and worked out several kinks. “I am looking forward to seeing the students. I’ve really missed them,” she said.

Supt. Dwayne Noble announced that Henryetta Public Schools received accreditation and it came back with zero deficiencies. “It’s a great time to be a Knight. I’m really proud of everybody,” Noble said. He also commented on a grant received that will provide the addition of a uniformed police officer to be on campus every day, until all students have gone.

No new business was presented and the meeting adjourned.

Board members attending the meeting were Casey Jones, David Bullard, Jeanie Duncan and Brandi Brown. James Williams was absent. Also present were Supt. Noble and Henryetta Public Schools Office Manager Tammie Fairres.
