Dr. William Carl Steckelberg

Dr. William “Bill” Carl Steckelberg, resident of Henryetta, passed away Thursday, April 12. Bill was born Jan. 13, 1941, in Henryetta to Carl Steckelberg and Juanita Guthrie Steckelberg.

Bill’s father ran the Atlas Coal Mine and later the Steckelberg Insurance Agency in Henryetta. His mother was a local artisan and employee of the Steckelberg Insurance agency as a Realtor.

Gary Lee Howard

Gary Lee Howard, resident of Tulsa and former resident of Henryetta, passed away Sunday, April 8, in Tulsa. Gary was born Oct. 25, 1952, Hawthorne, Calif. to William James Howard and Donna Noreen (Bussey) McDaniel.

Gary grew up in California and attended school there. He moved to Oklahoma in his early twenties, where he began working as an automotive paint and body technician. Gary operated a body shop in Henryetta for several years. He was a member of the New Life Church. He had a keen sense of adventure and lived his life to the fullest. Gary was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Bill Howard and a sister-in-law, Patty Howard.

William Ogg

Graveside services for William “Bill” Ogg, 69, resident of Henryetta, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Mr. Ogg was born Oct. 30, 1948, in Weleetka to William Sr. and Mildred (Sutterfield) Ogg. He died Saturday, April 14, in Henryetta.

He married Kelly Moore on March 8, 1995, in Hot Springs, Ark.

Iva McLeland

Graveside services for Iva “Florie” Lee McLeland, 84, resident of Henryetta, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Salt Creek Cemetery under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Mrs. McLeland was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Quinton to William and Beulah (Thrasher) Morris. She died Thursday, April 12, in Henryetta.

She married Robert McLeland on Feb. 19, 1951.

Survivors include her children, Bobby McLeland of Henryetta, Lucille Pounds of Okemah, William and McLeland and wife Carol of Dewar, Earnest McLeland and wife Carol of Henryetta, Roberta Stevenson and husband Billy Joe of Morris, Davie Mcleland and wife Cathy of Henryetta, and Clifford McLeland of Henryetta; 16 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; sister, Bertha Thomas of Pocola; and brother, Anthony Morris of Spiro.

Dorothy L. Cowan

Graveside services for Dorothy L. (Whisenhunt) Cowan, 91, resident of Henryetta, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Triplett Cemetery near Texanna under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.

Mrs. Cowan was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Checotah to Wiley Whisenhunt and Bessie (Cooper) Whisenhunt. She died Wednesday, April 11, in Henryetta.

Survivors include her sons, Stan Cowan and wife Marianne of Haskell and John Cowan of Henryetta; two grandchildren, John David Cowan of Henryetta and Jessica Combs and husband Kord of Haskell; two great grandchildren, Jace Cowan and Amaya Cowan of Minnesota; as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Bessie Whisenhunt; her husband, Donald Cowan; daughter, Cindy Board; granddaughter, Amy James; three brothers; and six sisters.

Yolanda Ann Otero

Funeral services for Yolanda Ann Otero, 65, resident of Weleetka, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Tallahassee Indian Methodist Church in Okmulgee. Interment will follow at the Tallahassee Indian Methodist Church Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.

Wake services will be Friday, April 13, at Tallahassee Indian Methodist Church in Okmulgee.

Mrs. Otero was born April 22, 1952, in Albuquerque, N.M. to Ceaser King and Beulah May (Sims) King. She died Sunday, April 8, in Norman.

Survivors include her husband, Matthew John Otero of Florida; daughters, Maggie Osceola of Florida, Rita Otero of Florida, Megan Otero of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sawena Otero of Weleetka; son, Heath Otero of Florida; 18 grandchildren; sister, Peggy Rains of Purcel; brother, Yahola Simms of California; as well as a host of other relatives.

Gary Howard

Funeral services for Gary Lee Howard, 65, resident of Tulsa and former resident of Henryetta, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Integrity Chapel under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.

Mr. Howard was born Oct. 25, 1952, in Hawthorne, Calif. to William James Howard and Donna Maurine (Bussey) Howard. He died Sunday, April 8, in Tulsa.

Survivors include his mother, Donna Howard of Broken Arrow; six brothers, Mike Howard and wife Tiffany of Henryetta, Mark Howard and wife Rachel of Broken Arrow, Bryan Howard of Enid, Dale Howard of Henryetta, Bobby Howard and wife Beverly of Broken Arrow, and Billy Howard of Broken Arrow; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, other extended family, and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Howard and sister-in-law, Patty Howard.

Avery Christopher Moore

Avery Moore, 18, lifetime resident of Henryetta, passed away Monday, April 2, in Henryetta. Avery was born June 17, 1999, in Okmulgee to Lindsey Moore and Michael Thompson.

Avery was currently a senior at Henryetta High School where he served as the 2018 Homecoming King, was on the National Honor Society, and the Henryetta High School Student Council. He also worked at Walmart in Okmulgee in the garden center.

Jack Burgess

Rev. Jack A. Burgess, 79, a resident of Hominy, passed away Tuesday, April 3, in Hominy, at the age of 79. Bro. Burgess was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Patton, Mo. to Lester Albert Burgess and Ann (Crites) Burgess.

Bro. Burgess lived in Henryetta for many years and had moved to Beebe, Ark. After his health began to decline, he and Vesta moved to Hominy to be near his children.

Bro. Burgess felt his call to preach at the age of four and at 16 preached his first revival. He continued with passion in the calling God placed on him until the end. Bro. Burgess married the love of his life, Vesta Lee Campbell on Oct. 14, 1957. That bond remained strong for 60 years.

Steven Edward Starr

Steven Edward Starr, 54, longtime resident of Henryetta, passed away Saturday, April 7. Steve was born Aug. 19, 1963, in Dallas, Texas to Jimmie and Christine Starr.

A really great artist, gardener and carpenter, Steve leaves an impact on all of the lives he ever touched. His smile and sweet heart will forever be a part of us each and every day.

Steve was a brother with the heart of a true warrior. He was brave, strong, and a fighter. Throughout his life as he faced many trials, but upon his death he found freedom and peace in the loving arms of Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Our love is eternal and will never die because of a bond that even death cannot sever.
