HENRYETTA - The Henryetta Golden Knight varsity football team began preparations for the upcoming 2018 campaign Monday morning with the first day of their 10-day spring football practice at historic Cameron Field.

The Knights will kick off their 2018 season August 31 at home against their arch rivals, the Morris Eagles.

Head coach Darin Johnson and his coaching staff will use the 10-day spring practice to begin preparing for the grueling 3-month regular-season schedule to get the Knights back in the postseason.

The Henryetta gridiron squad will look to erase last year's 1-9 record out of their minds and get back to the playoffs fifth time in the last nine years.

The Knights took the field for the first time in 2018 on Monday at 10:30 a.m. The remaining practice schedule for the HHS gridiron squad over the next two weeks will be as follows:

May 22, 2018 - 2 practices - 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

May 23, 2018 - 1 practice - 10:30 a.m.

May 24, 2018 - 2 practices - 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

May 25, 2018 - 1 practice - 10:30 a.m.

May 29, 2018 - 1 practice - 10:30 a.m.

May 30, 2018 - 1 practice - 10:30 a.m.

The two-week spring practice session will conclude with a trip to the Kiefer Team Camp next Thursday and Friday (May 30-31).

Following the Kiefer Team Camp, the Knights will compete in a 7-on-7 passing league during the month of June. Dates and site for the passing league are yet to be determined.

From June 7 through June 15, there will be voluntary workout sessions at the field from 7:30-10 a.m.

The annual Summer Pride conditioning workouts will begin June 18 and will continue until July 20 with an 'Off Week' July 2-6. The varsity Summer Pride workouts will take place from 6:30-8 a.m., while the junior high Summer Pride workouts will be from 8:30-10 a.m. each day.

August 6 will be the first practice session of the 2018 season for the Knights. The HHS squad will go through 2-a-Day workouts with just helmets and shorts the first four days (August 6-9), then will strap on the full football gear August 10 to begin full-pads contact practices.

The Knights will compete in two preseason scrimmages prior to the August 31 season opener against Morris.

The first scrimmage will take place August 17 at Mounds, while the final preseason 'tune-up' will take place August 24 at home against the Eufaula Ironheads.
