Arkansas town proclaims Leia Howton Day

Alma, Ark. Mayor Keith Greene proclaimed May 7, 2018 to be Leia Howton Day in Alma.

Howton is the host of the Leia Show, a news show for teens and young adults.

The Proclamation reads: “Whereas; Ms. Leia Howton was raised by her grandparents, Jeff and Cathy Owen; and Whereas; Leia’s family were veterans of the Army, Navy and Air Force; and Whereas; Leia is the President of the Young Historians of American; and Whereas; Leia Howton, 15 years of age, a citizen in good standing in her hometown of Henryetta, Oklahoma through her actions, education, volunteerism, determination to succeed, and community involvement personifies the true nature of how a young person can by her leadership and talents make today a better time for our leaders of tomorrow; and Whereas; Leia has in education been an honor student; and Whereas; Leia has excelled in honor choir and has been selected to represent the Future Farmers of America in the Oklahoma State FFA Choir; and Whereas; Leia continues to excel in modeling, and acting, and has competed in intrastate competition and is a member of the Performing Arts Students of America; and Whereas; Leia is a member and an officer of FAMILY, Career and Community Leaders of America, FCCLA; and Whereas; Leia is the host of The Leia Show, and internet sensation, that reports the news that matters to young people and includes the honoring of our nation’s veterans; and Whereas; Leia has traveled to interview various governors, including Governor Asa Hutchinson, members of congress, mayors, and many other people for The Leia Show; and Whereas; Leia is in Alma to showcase our all-American town for her upcoming documentary “Crossroads of America.”

The Leia Show provides a forum for an international news resource center that is informative, educational and entertaining and also highlights stories about young people doing amazing things and helping to make the world a better place.

Howton was visiting Alma to attend the Kick Start Alma Action Plan unveiling and to record for her upcoming documentary, “Cross Roads of America.”

Keynote speaker for the event was Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.

The Leia Show originates from Howton’s hometown of Henryetta.
