Knights drop county battle with Beggs

HENRYETTA - The Henryetta Golden Knights suffered a 12-2 defeat at the hands of their county rivals, the Beggs Golden Demons, this past Tuesday evening at the HHS baseball diamond.

The Knights (9-8) trailed the 3A No. 4 Demons 5-2 after six innings, then watched as the narrow 3-run lead quickly became 10 with a 7-run top of the seventh.

The Henryetta squad will look to rebound from their current 3-game losing streak this Monday at home against Kellyville. The conference battle with the Ponies is set to take place at 5 p.m. in Henryetta.

After the home meeting with Kellyville, the Knights will travel to Holdenville Tuesday for a showdown with the Holdenville Wolverines, then will be in Morris next Thursday for a county battle with the Morris Eagles.

In Tuesday's county battle with Beggs, the Demons got the scoring started with a pair of runs in the top of the first, then added a run in the top of the third for a 3-0 advantage.

Henryetta got on the scoreboard in the home half of the third by plating one run in the frame to make it a 3-1 contest after three innings of action.

After a scoreless fourth, the Demons increased their lead to 5-1 with two runs in the top of the fifth, while the Knights cut the Beggs lead to three, 5-2, with a run in the bottom of the frame.

Neither team was able to produce any runs in their half of the sixth, sending the county battle to the final inning of regulation with Beggs clinging to a 5-2 advantage.

In the top of the seventh, the Demons turned the 3-run lead into 10 by plating seven runs in the inning.

The Knights were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to award the Beggs squad the 12-2 victory.

Drew Brown was saddled with the pitching loss for Henryetta, working the first six and one-third innings.

Brown allowed 10 runs on 11 hits, striking out four, walking five, and hitting a batter in his six and one-third innings of work for Henryetta.

Seth Munoz worked the final two-thirds of an inning in relief for the Knights, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks.

Munoz was the top hitter for Henryetta with an RBI single in the third. The other four base hits for the Knights in the county contest came on singles by Jared Montgomery, Jeremiah Boyles, Jean Pixler, and Jerad Fife.

Other Henryetta hitters to reach base against Beggs were Munoz (walk), Pixler (walk), Montgomery (error), Nathan Welch (walk), and Ethan Wincle (fielder's choice, hit by pitch).

The top hitter for Beggs was Braxton Davis, who went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and an RBI.
