DEWAR - The Dewar Dragons improved to 12-3 on the year with an 11-1 victory over the visiting Okay Mustangs at Wiley Ryal Park.

The run-rule win against Okay was the 10th of the 2018 campaign for Josh Killhoffer's Dewar squad. In the 10 run-rule wins, the Dragons have outscored their opponents 118-14. (In the other two Dewar wins this season, the Dragons have defeated their opponents 14-4.)

The Dewar squad was scheduled to travel to Graham-Dustin on Tuesday, but that contest was postponed due to inclement weather on Tuesday.

The Dragons were scheduled to compete in the Weleetka Spring Baseball Tournament Thursday-Saturday, beginning tournament action Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against the Okemah Panthers. A win over Okemah on Thursday will move the Dewar squad into the semifinals on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against the winner between Savanna and Wetumka. A loss on Thursday will drop the Dragons into the consolation semifinals at 12:30 p.m. on Friday against the loser of Weleetka and Porum.

Following the Weleetka Tournament, the Dragons will travel to Porter on Monday to battle the Porter Pirates, then will host the Strother Yellowjackets on Tuesday. The Dewar squad will close out next week's schedule next Thursday-Saturday at the 34th Annual Joe Fowler Dewar Gumbo Classic baseball tournament.

In Monday's showdown with Okay, the Dragons opened the scoring with four runs in the home half of the first. The Dewar squad extended its lead to 7-0 with three runs in the bottom of the second.

A pair of runs in the last of the third pushed the Dragons' advantage to 9-0 after three innings of action.

The visiting Mustangs broke up the shuout bid with a run in the top of the fourth, cutting the deficit to eight, 9-1.

The final runs for the Dragons in the run-rule win came in the bottom of the fourth when senior Kelby Carter blasted a 2-run home run.

The Dewar defense kept Okay off the scoreboard in the top of the fifth to give the Dragons the 11-1, run-rule, win.

Joey Fowler got the start on the mound for Dewar and was awarded the pitching win. The freshman hurler allowed just one hit in his three innings of work, striking out four and walking two.

Baylor Selby took over the pitching duties in the fourth, working two innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit with one strikeout and one walk.

The top hitters for the Dragons in the home contest were Fowler and Brock Hicks, who both went 2 for 2 at the plate.

Besides Carter's 2-run home run in the fourth, the other base hits for Dewar against Okay came on a single by Jentry Brison and doubles by Shawn Maxwell and Brett Hays.
