HENRYETTA - The Henryetta high school baseball team will take the field for the first time in 2018 today (Friday).

The first opponent for the Knights in 2018 will be the Weleetka Outlaws. The first action for the HHS diamond squad will take place on the Knights' home field at 5 p.m.

The Henryetta baseball team, which will be under the direction of longtime coach Garry Howk in 2018, are scheduled to compete in a total of 15 regular-season dates and two tournaments this season.

Following today's season opener against Weleetka, the Knights will take to the road for the first time in 2018 on Saturday, traveling to Beggs for a county showdown with the talented Beggs Golden Demons, who have reached the Class 3A state baseball tournament the last three years. Saturday's meeting with Beggs is slated for a 12 p.m. start time at Golden Demon Park in Beggs.

The Henryetta diamond squad will continue their 2-game road trip on Monday, heading to Kiefer for a 3-way battle with Hulbert and the host Kiefer Trojans. The Knights will take on Kiefer at 4:30 p.m., then will square off against Hulbert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

After the trip to Kiefer, the Henryetta squad will return home on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. contest against the Okemah Panthers.

After hosting Okemah, the Knights will travel to Haskell next Saturday for a 12 p.m. showdown with the Haskell Haymakers.

Besides hosting Weleetka in the season opener today (Friday) and Okemah on Tuesday, the other home dates for the Knights during the month of March will be March 12 against Morris, March 21 against Dewar, and March 27 against Eufaula.

Besides traveling to Beggs, Kiefer, and Haskell, the Henryetta diamond squad will also travel to Kellyville March 15, and Weleetka March 22.

The Knights will also be in Weleetka March 29-31 to compete in the annual Weleetka baseball tournament.

Following the Weleetka Tournament, the Henryetta squad will begin the month of April with a road game at Preston April 2, then will compete in the annual Dewar Gumbo Classic baseball tournament April 5-7. The Knights will begin the annual 3-day tournament April 5 competing on their home field, then will finish the tournament April 6-7 at Wiley Ryal Park in Dewar.

After the Dewar Tournament is complete, the Knights will play host to Beggs April 10 and Kellyville April 16 before closing out the regular-season schedule on the road at Holdenville April 17 and Morris April 19.

The postseason will get underway April 26-28 with district tournament action. The regional tournament will follow May 3-4, while the Class 3A state baseball tournament will take place May 10-12.

All playoff sites will be determined by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.

If the Knights can find ways to compete against the list of talented teams they will face in 2018, they could very well be one of eight teams competing for the Class 3A state championship in the second weekend of May.

The first obstacle in front of the Knights' dreams of a state title is the Weleetka Outlaws with the road to the state crown beginning today (Friday) at the Henryetta high school baseball field, which is located behind McDonald's in downtown Henryetta.
