HENRYETTA - The Henryetta varsity basketball teams hosted Kellyville in a special Wednesday evening meeting at the Henryetta Event Center.

The reason for the Wednesday scheduled contest was the fact that the two schools were originally scheduled to play on Tuesday in Henryetta, but the games were pushed back one day due to icy road conditions that caused travel problems.

With both teams wanting to have the games take place, as Henryetta had scheduled a special Basketball Homecoming coronation prior to the contests, the decision was made to play the scheduled contests on Wednesday.

After seniors Pepper Logan and Skyla Notley were selected as the Basketball Homecoming Royalty for 2017-18, Logan and the Knights took the court to battle the visiting Kellyville Ponies.

The host Henryetta squad stayed close to the visitors through the first two quarters, but a 7-point advantage by Kellyville in the third quarter proved to be the difference in the outcome, as the Knights dropped the home contest by a 58-46 decision.

The Lady Knights attempted to avoid Queen Notley's special night being spoiled, but wound up on the short end of a 63-14 decision in the nightcap.

The Henryetta cage squads will be back in action on Friday with a trip to Beggs for a county showdown with the Beggs Golden Demons and Lady Demons. The girls county contest is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. with the boys county battle to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Following the trip to Beggs on Friday, the HHS squads will travel to Oktaha on Monday, then will close out their regular-season schedule on Tuesday at home against their arch rivals, the Morris Eagles and Lady Eagles.

In the boys contest on Wednesday, the Knights trailed 11-5 early in the opening frame then closed out the first quarter with a 9-4 run to trail by one, 15-14, at the end of the the first eight minutes of action.

The scoring went back and forth in the second stanza with Kellyville coming out of the period with a narrow 14-13 margin to send the game into the halftime break with Henryetta down by two, 29-27.

The visitors increased their lead to nine, 47-38, heading into the final frame after outscoring the Knights 18-11 in the third quarter.

The Henryetta gentlemen cut the deficit to seven, 53-46, with 2:32 remaining in regulation, but was unable to get any closer, as Kellyville closed out the 12-point decision with a 5-0 run to hand the Knights the 58-46 setback.

Jerad Fife led Henryetta in scoring with a team-best 16 points. Logan was next for the Knights with 10, followed by Colten Wion with eight and Avery Moore with seven. Daniel Bear and Drew Brown rounded out the HHS scoring with three and two points, respectively.

Tanner Clayton led Kellyville with a game-high 22 points. Jordan White also reached double figures for the Ponies with 13.

In the girls contest, both teams struggled offensively in the first eight minutes with Kellyville coming out the opening frame with an 8-1 advantage. The Lady Ponies took the second stanza 14-6 for a 22-7 halftime margin, then outscored the host Lady Knights by a combined 41-7 in the second half to hand the Henryetta ladies the 63-14 defeat.

Kaylie Hamric was the top scorer for the Lady Knights, finishing with 12 points in the contest. Ashlyn Green's basket in the third quarter accounted for the final two points for Henryetta in the home contest.

Kellyville was led in scoring by Sarah Jones with 12 and Jade Upshaw with 10.
