Henryetta senior Kobe Johnson has been named a commended student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSC).

The program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Each year, 1.6 million students enter the contest by taking the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The student's response on the answer sheet determine whether or not they are qualified to compete in the NMSC program.

Of those 1.6 million entries, about 34,000 students are named as commended students across the nation.

“Although they will not continue in the 2018 competition for NMSC awards, commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers,” NMSC explained in a press release.

The young men and women named commendable students have demonstrated outstanding academic success.

“These students represent a valuable national resource,; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation,” a NMSC spokesperson said. “We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
