The Dewar Dragons put together a complete two-game stretch this week, using dominant pitching and opportunistic offense to secure back-to-back victories over Central and Henryetta.
Dewar opened the run with a convincing 9-2 win over the Central Tigers on Thursday, then followed it up with a 6-1 triumph against the Henryetta Knights on Friday, showcasing both depth on the mound and discipline at the plate.
– Dragons pull away late in win over Central The Dragons wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in Thursday’s matchup, capitalizing on a Central miscue in the first inning to plate the game’s opening run.
Central briefly grabbed momentum in the top of the second inning, taking a 2-1 lead behind RBI efforts from Tite Cox and Jace Money. But Dewar quickly answered in the bottom half of the frame, regaining control after Traber Jones worked a walk and another passed ball allowed the tying and go-ahead runs to score.
From there, the Dragons steadily built their lead.
A third-inning RBI single from Johnathan Wilson extended the advantage to 4-2, and Dewar continued to apply pressure throughout the game, taking advantage of free passes and defensive miscues. The Dragons’ patient approach at the plate proved pivotal, as they drew eight walks and consistently put runners in scoring position.
Wilson and Stoney Yaerger led the offensive effort with two hits apiece, while Ayden Been and Traber Jones each drove in two runs. Jones also showed strong plate discipline, earning two walks as part of Dewar’s balanced attack.
On the mound, Vinton Goff delivered a steady and effective performance. The righthander worked six innings, allowing just four hits and two runs – none of them earned – while striking out eight and walking two. His ability to limit damage and keep Central off balance set the tone for the Dragons’ defensive effort.
Central managed hits from Kage Poindexter, Ryker Miller, Cox and Money, with Cox and Money each recording an RBI, but the Tigers were unable to sustain offensive momentum against Goff and the Dewar defense.
— Yaerger dominates in win over Henryetta Dewar carried that momentum into Friday’s home contest against Henryetta, where Stoney Yaerger turned in one of the most dominant pitching performances of the season.
The right-hander struck out 11 batters over a complete-game effort, allowing just three hits and one run across seven innings while issuing only two walks. Yaerger kept the Knights off balance all game long, mixing pitches effectively and working out of limited trouble.
After a scoreless first inning, Dewar broke through in the second. Braxton Wiebe delivered the big hit of the game with a two-run double, giving the Dragons an early cushion they would not relinquish.
Dewar added to its lead throughout the game, finishing with six runs on a balanced offensive effort. Wiebe led the way with two RBIs, while Ayden Been, Vinton Goff, Johnathan Wilson, Cooper McGee and Wiebe each recorded a hit.
Henryetta starter Haiden Kaler battled through six innings, allowing six runs on five hits while striking out four and walking four. Despite the loss, the Knights turned in a clean defensive performance, committing no errors, with Mavrix Randleman leading the team with eight fielding chances.
Offensively, Henryetta was limited to just three hits, coming from Blake Silkwood, EJ Glover and Boston Morris. Silkwood accounted for the Knights’ lone run with an RBI.
— Building Momentum
With the two victories, Dewar continues to show growth on both sides of the ball. The Dragons combined for 15 runs across the two games while allowing just three total runs, backed by strong starting pitching performances from Goff and Yaerger.
Equally important has been Dewar’s approach at the plate. The Dragons demonstrated patience and situational awareness, particularly in the win over Central where they drew eight walks and capitalized on scoring opportunities.
As the season progresses, Dewar appears to be finding its rhythm, blending timely hitting, disciplined at-bats and reliable pitching into a formula for success.
The Dragons will look to carry that momentum forward as they continue their homestand and prepare for the next stretch of games.
