The Preston Lady Pirates opened tournament play with a challenging matchup, falling 56-37 to the Silo Lady Rebels in first-round action.
Preston stayed competitive early, keeping the game within reach through the opening half before Silo used a strong second-half push to pull away.
Silo jumped out early behind steady offensive execution, taking a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Preston tightened defensively in the second period but struggled to find consistent scoring, as Silo added to its advantage to carry a 24-12 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Lady Pirates responded with their best offensive stretch of the game, scoring 13 points in the third quarter. However, Silo answered each basket with scoring of its own, extending the margin to 41-25 heading into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Silo continued to control the pace, closing the game with a 15-point frame while Preston added 12 points but was unable to cut into the deficit, sealing the 56-37 final.
Preston received contributions throughout the lineup, with guards Emma Savage and Mackenzie Trotter helping handle ball pressure, while Bella Byington and Delanie Long provided inside presence. Freshmen Mattie Mangum and Hayden Rider logged key minutes, gaining valuable tournament experience against a physical Silo squad.
