The Henryetta Board of Education met Monday evening, Oct. 13, for its regular session, hearing a series of updates ranging from transportation and maintenance to upcoming academic and athletic events, as well as plans for a proposed bond issue expected early next year.
— Superintendent’s Report highlights district improvements Superintendent Jason Price presented an extensive report covering the district’s operations and future plans. He opened by noting that all school buses and vehicles are fully operational, with new compressed natural gas (CNG) kits installed and awaiting final activation pending Okmulgee’s natural gas supply, expected within two weeks.
Price said the district continues to emphasize safety and modernization. New black trash receptacles have replaced old rusted ones throughout the campuses and athletic facilities, and window tinting with Henryetta Knight logos will soon be added to several entryways to enhance security by preventing visibility from outside the buildings.
“We’re making sure our facilities are safe, clean and inviting,” Price said, emphasizing the steady pace of maintenance improvements districtwide.
— Free Meals, Community Connections & Senior Citizen Event Price reaffirmed that all Henryetta students continue to receive free meals, part of a 100% district- wide nutrition program. He announced an upcoming Citizens Meal set for Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. in the high school and middle school cafeteria. The event will serve as a bridge between the schools and community.
“This is a positive outreach effort,” Price said. “It’s about connecting our schools with the people who helped build this community.”
Guests will be asked to RSVP so that the district can plan the meal appropriately, which coincides with a Henryetta basketball game that evening at Preston.
— Academics, Technology & Accreditation On the academic front, Price said the district has strengthened its curriculum through new technology and math resources. Henryetta Schools passed its fall accreditation review with no issues, and auditors also gave favorable remarks during their recent visit. “I’m proud of the staff that worked tirelessly to make certain all was in order,” he said.
Price attended a recent area superintendents’ meeting and conducted several in-district sessions with department heads, including transportation, maintenance, special education and athletics.
— Future Bond Discussion & Facility Planning Looking ahead, Price announced that a meeting with the district’s architect was scheduled for the following morning to discuss facility improvements tied to a potential bond election in February 2026. He noted that once those plans are finalized, the board may need to hold special meetings to review and refine the proposals.
— Athletics & Student Activities
The superintendent commended the Henryetta athletic programs for their continued effort and achievements. The football team has remained strong with recent wins, while softball concluded a competitive season after a hard-fought playoff run. Cross country continues to compete, including a meet hosted in Henryetta, and basketball season is beginning as several players transition from fall sports.
Price also praised the agriculture department for its growing participation and success at various student events, saying it continues to “represent Henryetta Schools well.”
— High School Principal’s Report
The High School Principal reported that Homecoming week was a resounding success, marking the third year the celebration has been held downtown. “It was probably our biggest turnout yet,” he said, noting that the senior class won the week’s competitions and will be treated to a day trip later this spring, likely to Urban Air.
Henryetta’s football team capped off Homecoming week with a win over Wilburton. The Knights’ next game, scheduled for Thursday against Vian, will be followed by a Senior Night matchup with Antlers. The principal said playoff hopes remain alive, though the team would likely be traveling if they advance.
On the academic side, parent-teacher conferences saw strong attendance, and the high school has completed all requirements for accreditation. Basketball scrimmages are underway, and the middle and elementary schools are beginning their own basketball seasons this month.
— Middle School Updates
Middle school staff also reported successful parent- teacher conferences and completion of accreditation tasks. The junior high softball and cross country teams wrapped up their seasons, while basketball is now in full swing, including participation in an upcoming Eufaula Tournament.
The middle school football season closes this week with a home game against Okemah.
— Looking Ahead
Superintendent Price closed the meeting by emphasizing the district’s positive trajectory in academics, athletics, and community engagement. “We’re moving forward with purpose,” he said, adding that continued collaboration between staff, parents, and community members will keep Henryetta Schools thriving.
The board will reconvene for its next regular meeting in November, with special sessions expected in the coming months as bond planning progresses.
