No. 4-ranked Lady Pirates charge into tournament with title dreams in sight
By PATRICK FORD Editor,

The Preston Lady Pirates are heading back to the big stage – and this time, they’re storming into the 2025 OSSAA Class 2A Fast-Pitch State Tournament with a vengeance.

Boasting a stellar 27-7 record, the Lady Pirates enter the bracket ranked #4 in Class 2A and fresh off a dominant run through regionals. Now, they’re set to open tournament play on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. against Colbert at Yukon High School, launching a three-day journey that could culminate in a championship appearance at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Saturday.

— Regional Rout to State

The Lady Pirates proved their postseason readiness with back-to-back shutouts over Nowata (10-0), Caney Valley (14-0) and Ketchum (10-0) in regional action, followed by a sweep of Crescent (1-0 and 6-0) in the OSSAA Regional Finals.

These victories showcased their elite pitching, lockdown defense, and offensive depth – all trademarks of Head Coach Jimmy Hurst’s aggressive but disciplined approach.

Coach Jimmy Hurst, a veteran leader with a no-nonsense approach, has guided the Pirates through high-pressure contests and tournaments all season long. Under his leadership, the team has not only improved statistically but developed a strong sense of camaraderie and resilience two key ingredients for postseason success. Pirate Nation is encouraged to fill the stands at Yukon and, if all goes well, Oklahoma City. Fans are urged to wear their Preston colors, bring their loudest cheers, and support this outstanding team as they chase state glory.

Whether it’s the opener Thursday or championship Saturday, the Lady Pirates will be playing for more than a trophy – they’ll be playing for each other, their school and their entire community.
