Henryetta runners shine at meet

The Henryetta cross country teams delivered a strong showing across all divisions at the Holdenville Meet held Thursday, Aug. 23. With standout performances from both the high school and middle school squads, the Knights and Lady Knights demonstrated depth, determination and promising potential for the season ahead.

— HHS Girls – Podium Finishers The Henryetta High School girls placed third overall with a team score of 90 points, trailing only Kingston and Wewoka. Leading the charge was Stormi Waquie, who clocked a swift 6:23.0 to secure third place overall in the varsity 2-mile run. She was closely followed by Camrynn Watkins in 7th place (6:37.7) and Peyton Wind in 20th (7:08.5).

Peyton Bailey finished strong in 25th (7:19.3) while Annika Kramer (36th, 7:58.5) and Kaylee Mitchell (43rd, 8:10.9) rounded out the varsity finishers. Olivia Owen placed 46th with a time of 8:16.6.

— HHS Boys – Consistent Pack Running The Henryetta High School boys team took third place with a total of 113 points, bolstered by solid pack running. Cadyn Gillispie led the way in 9th place (12:21.62). He was followed by Jeffery Webster (17th, 13:26.88) and Kashton Montgomery (23rd, 14:18.32).

Ty Goodner came in 24th, just seconds behind Montgomery, and Luke Harlan finished in 40th, helping to round out the team’s point total. Trent Tyler (43rd) also ran a strong race, with all six runners finishing in the top half of the field.

— HMS Girls – An Individual Champion In the Middle School Girls division, Keegan Hardgrave of Henryetta Middle School stole the show with a first-place finish, running an impressive 6:38.6 over the mile course.

Her victory was one of the top highlights for Henryetta in the entire meet.

Teammate Dixie Hedrick also turned in a solid performance, placing 24th (8:10.5), contributing to the middle school girls’ presence among some highly competitive fields.

— HMS Boys – Runner-Up Team Finish The Henryetta Middle School boys placed second overall with 78 points, just behind the top team from Tushka. Grayson Gillispie led the team with a runner-up finish in 6:06.4, followed by a string of strong performances from his teammates.

Aziah King crossed the line in 11th (6:31.38), with Easton Sneed placing 14th (6:41.55) and Landon Chamberlain in 17th. Waylon Shrum rounded out the scoring in 36th place, keeping Henryetta in podium contention.

Additional strong efforts came from Isiah Easter (43rd) and Bentley Webster (45th).

— HES Boys & Girls – Strong Individual Performances In the Elementary Girls division, Henryetta Elementary earned first place with a total of 34 points. Greer Blake finished second overall (6:52.8), and teammates Blaike Gillispie (7th) and Cambry Kramer (10th) joined her in the top 10. Marlow Henry and Chamber Elkins helped solidify the win with 13th and 17th place finishes respectively.

On the boys’ side, Cannon Kramer finished second overall (6:47.65) and Tatum Montgomery placed 12th. Also contributing were Ryden Mosco (22nd) and Ryker Mosco (26th) for a commendable team finish.
