From a humble beginning at a small Oakdale school in Okmulgee, a handful of Muscogee citizens began the task of reawakening what was once the most powerful tribal government. A four-part series of lectures will be presented over a period of three months to reflect on the history of the growth of the Tribe. Former Chiefs, Council Repre- sentatives, Cabinet members, Women Leaders, Tribal Administrators and Senior Management personnel will share their experiences during a time of uncertainty to lay the foundation for one of the most successful contemporary tribal governments in the country.

The first series will be held Tuesday, July 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the College of Muscogee Nation Lecture Hall. Light refreshments will be provided. Presenters will include former Principal Chief Bill Fife, former Executive Director Ed Mouss, Dr. James, King, College of Muscogee Nation, former Council Representative and Tribal Administrator Jerry Wilson, former Chief of Staff Dr Bo Colbert, former Education Foundation Director, Dr. Pete Coser.

Former Principal Chief George Tiger will moderate the series.

Future presenters will include former Speaker and Tax Commissioner Sam Alexander, former State Representative and Tax Commissioner Jerry McPeak, former Council Representative Rita Williams, former Thlopthlocco Mekko Grace Bunner and others.

Series 2 will be held Tuesday, July 29, and will include the period of 19801989 referred to as Self Determination to Gaming Compact.

The third series will be held August 19th discussing the period of 1990 to 1999 and the standoff at Duck Creek with the state of Oklahoma over Tobacco Compact.

The final Series will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2, covering the period of 2000 to the present day. Each series will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the College of Muscogee Nation Lecture Hall. Muscogee Tribal citizens, College of Muscogee Nation students and the general public are invited to attend and learn about the evolution of the Mvskoke tribal government.
