City of Okmulgee prepares to light up the sky July 4

City of Okmulgee prepares to light up the sky July 4

The City of Okmulgee is set to host one of Oklahoma’s most anticipated Independence Day celebrations with its 15th Annual Fireworks Extravaganza on Friday, July 4, at the Okmulgee Municipal Park. This year’s event promises to be bigger, louder and more dazzling than ever before, thanks to the tireless efforts of Emergency Management Director and licensed pyrotechnician Kenneth Anderson and his team.

“We look forward to a real show-stopper display,” Anderson said. “We will be shooting over 1,000 shells choreographed to six songs. Hopefully, everyone will bring their families out to experience the fireworks and enjoy the park.”

As in years past, the event is free and open to the public, with the fireworks show slated to begin at 10 p.m. However, festivities will kick off much earlier at 7 p.m., giving families plenty of time to enjoy live entertainment, food and family-friendly attractions before the sky lights up in celebration of America’s 249th birthday.

This year’s musical entertainment will be provided by crowd favorite Bo Posey and his band, who will take the stage at 7 p.m. “It’s not just about the fireworks,” Anderson said. “It’s about community, music, food and celebration. There’s something spe- cial about gathering under the stars and enjoying this with friends and neighbors.”

Children are in for a treat with water slides provided by the Fraternal Order of Police #96, keeping them cool and entertained until 9:30 p.m. Brenda Mann will also be present handing out free goodies for the kids, adding to the festive spirit. Meanwhile, Neals Homestore will be giving away free snow cones, a sweet way to cool off during the summer evening.

A diverse array of food vendors will be on-site, including the Knights of Columbus (serving hot dogs, chips, pop and kettle corn), Raven Rock Pizza, House of Smoke BBQ, Next Level Grill 2, Jack’s Ice Cream and The Coffee Gait, ensuring there’s something for every palate.

City officials are reminding the public that while personal fireworks can be seen around town, they are strictly prohibited in the park itself. “As always, you cannot shoot personal fireworks in the park,” Anderson emphasized, citing safety concerns.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on the Neals Homestore Facebook page, and audio will be broadcast live on 88.3 FM for listeners in the surrounding area of Okmulgee Municipal Park.

This event would not be possible without the strong support of local sponsors. The City of Okmulgee extends its heartfelt thanks to the 2025 sponsors: Tate & Lyle, Fraternal Order of Police #96, First Family Federal Credit Union, Stewart Martin Kubota, El Avocado Mexican Restaurant, Fred Harlan Ford, Neals Homestore, Anchor Financial, McClendon-Winters Funeral Home, The Rodeo, Patrons Bank, Mabrey Bank, Flooring Liquidators, Greg Marriot, CPA, Just Dirt, State Farm Insurance Agents (Hayden Sharp and Drew Santine), Walter’s Real Estate, Priegel Homeland Insurance, Brenda Mann and Domino’s Pizza.

The fireworks show has become a summer staple in Okmulgee, drawing crowds from throughout the region. While the fireworks themselves are visible across town, the city urges residents to come out to the park and experience the sights, sounds and energy in person.

“There’s nothing compared to watching, hearing and feeling the wonderful, emotional and patriotic show at the park,” said Anderson.

So bring your lawn chairs, blankets and patriotic spirit for a night of celebration, remembrance and community pride. Let’s join together to wish America a joyful and safe 249th birthday under the starry Oklahoma sky.
