Two schools in Okmulgee County have announced exciting coaching additions for the upcoming school year, bringing new energy and leadership to their athletic programs. — Pope named Head Softball Coach at Dewar Dewar Public Schools has promoted longtime assistant Kamarie Pope to Head Softball Coach, a move that brings experience, passion and continuity to the Lady Dragons program. Pope has spent the last two seasons assisting with the softball team, helping guide the program through competitive seasons while developing a strong rapport with student- athletes. Her coaching promotion follows an impressive playing career. At Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Pope stood out both academically and athletically. She was a Second Team All-Great American Conference (GAC) selection during her senior year and a two-time GAC Elite Scholar Athlete. Notably, she was named Southeastern’s Female Scholar Athlete of the Year three times – an accolade that speaks volumes about her dedication and discipline.
Prior to college, Pope was a high school standout, earning First Team All-State honors in both fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, along with being named All-Conference Player of the Year.
Now at the helm of the Lady Dragons program, Pope is focused on creating a competitive yet nurturing environment.
“Coach Pope’s transition to head coach is a natural next step,” Dewar Athletics officials said. “She exemplifies leadership, discipline and a true love for the sport. We are excited to see how she will grow the program.”
Pope has expressed her commitment to not only developing skilled athletes but also mentoring young women into strong, confident leaders.
— Morris adds new educator-coach Briley Berry Over in Morris, a new face is joining the coaching and teaching staff. Briley Berry, a recent graduate of Northeastern State University, will begin his first year as an educator and coach at Morris Public Schools, bringing with him a legacy of education and enthusiasm for athletics.
A native of Haskell, Berry earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies Education and is eager to step into a role that combines academics with athletics. He is a third-generation educator, continuing a family tradition that spans more than 50 years of service in Oklahoma schools.
Berry’s athletic background is equally notable. He competed in basketball, football and golf during his high school years, earning all-conference honors in both basketball and football. He also holds an Oklahoma State FFA Degree and was active in livestock showing.
“My goal is to bring positivity and enthusiasm to both the classroom and the playing field,” Berry shared. “I’m honored to join the Morris community and contribute to the culture of excellence they’ve built.”
Outside of school, Berry enjoys outdoor activities, particularly hunting and fishing. His well-rounded experiences and passion for sports and education position him to make a meaningful impact on the Morris student body.
