Green Country Technology Center (GCTC) wrapped up its annual Summer Exploration Camp on June 5, welcoming 63 enthusiastic students from grades 6-10 for three action-packed days of hands-on learning, career exploration and creative fun.
Held June 3-5 on the GCTC campus, the camp gave students an exciting glimpse into future career pathways through interactive sessions led by GCTC instructors. Each program area highlighted its curriculum, available certifications, wage expectations, and real-world applications, with instructors fully immersing campers in what their programs have to offer.
Campers rotated through engaging activities in Medical Assisting, Welding, CNC, Health Careers Certification (HCC), Construction Trades, Programming and Video Game Development and Cosmetology.
Highlights from this year’s camp included:
• CNC & Welding students teaming up to build and decorate custom wind chimes.
• Construction Trades students designing and constructing birdhouses.
• Medical Assisting participants practicing sutures and injections (on simulations) and racing magnetic ambulances.
• HCC students exploring wound care and learning CNA checkoffs.
• Programming students competing in an Esports tournament.
• Cosmetology campers focused on hygiene education and decorated their own sunglasses.
“The goal is to give students a taste of what CareerTech has to offer in a fun and engaging way,” said Anthony Nieto, Marketing & Communications Coordinator. “They walked away with real hands-on experiences and a better understanding of where their interests might take them.”
One camper shared, “I had no idea how fun programming could be now I want to build my own game!” Another added, “I liked welding because we actually got to make something and take it home.”
