– Board of County Commissioners Meeting This week, Emergency Management attended the regularly scheduled Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting. Updates were provided regarding ongoing emergency operations and preparedness activities, with a focus on current severe weather and flood risks. The Commissioners were briefed on situational awareness, interagency coordination and potential response needs due to excessive rainfall across the region.
— Severe Weather & Flood Monitoring Throughout the week, Emergency Management maintained continuous monitoring of severe weather forecasts, advisories and warnings issued by the National Weather Service. Particular attention was given to excessive rainfall events that significantly impacted our area beginning midweek. Real-time flood monitoring tools and local reports were used to track river and stream levels, flash flooding and at-risk infrastructure.
— Damage Assessment & Response Beginning Thursday and continuing through the weekend, Emergency Management coordinated and conducted damage assessments across the county. Multiple areas were impacted by flooding, with damage to public infrastructure, roads, private property and agricultural areas. Assessment operations included field inspections, and documentation of damages for state and federal reporting. As of this report, damage assessment is ongoing.
— Declared Disaster Emergency
On Thursday, due to the severe and widespread flooding, a Disaster Emergency was declared in [County Name]. An emergency meeting of the Board of County Commissioners was held on Friday, where the Commissioners formally voted to support and ratify the Disaster Emergency declaration.
Emergency Management maintained continuous communication with the State Department of Emergency Management, providing situational updates and notifying the agency of the county’s official declaration of a disaster emergency.
