Runs were scarce but the Preston Pirates made the most of their early opportunities, earning a hardfought 2-0 win over the Hugo Buffaloes on Saturday.

Jace Basquez got the start and was strong on the mound for Preston, allowing only one hit over 2.1 innings while striking out three.

Kaden Dean got the Pirates on the board in the first with a sacrifice fly. Preston added a second run in the second inning after a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

Both teams played error-free defense in a cleanly played game.
