City of Henryetta workers converged on a dangerous, obstructed crosswalk on the west side of 17th and Main Street. It is the west entrance coming into Henryetta and years of undergrowth and trees have encroached on the right of way and severely obstructed the view to the crosswalk.
City Councilman Vernon Van Meter was contacted for help and after viewing the intersection he expressed deep concern because this is a school crossing.
Henryetta City Manager David Bullard was also contacted, and he ordered the growth removed so eastbound traffic entering the city could have an unobstructed view and not have a “blind corner.”
It has been a long time coming but the dangerous crosswalk is now in clear view before vehicles drive around the curve and can now see the school crossing long before entering the crosswalk area. It has been extremely dangerous with several close calls with children in the crosswalk.
“Vehicles drive too fast entering the city, and they could not see the area until they were right on the crosswalk,” Van Meter said. Those who use that crosswalk and those who drive out of 17th Street onto Main Street are grateful to Councilman Van Meter, City Manager Bullard and the city workers who performed the work.
Great job everybody!
