Doreen Cronin, American author of children’s books, celebrates March 28, 1966, as her birth date in Queens, N.Y. She is the daughter of a police officer and grew up on Long Island with two brothers and a sister. She lived in a red house with a big backyard and a neighborhood full of kids.
