Preston’s Pepper Gallup was nearly untouchable on the mound, throwing a no-hitter and striking out 10 in a commanding 11-0 run-rule win over the Crowder Demons. Gallup allowed no hits or runs across five innings of work, walking five in the shutout performance.
Offensively, the Pirates exploded with eight runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Weston Cope sparked the surge with a solo home run to left field. The rally continued with RBI singles from Bradley Winford, Kaden Dean, and Jace Basquez, a bases-loaded walk from Hunter McElhannon, and a two-run double by Gallup himself.
Preston first got on the board in the third when Dean deliv- ered a two-RBI single, followed by an RBI groundout from Noah Wilson.
The Pirates were relentless at the plate, pounding out 16 hits. Winford and Jayden Herring, batting back-to-back in the lineup, each had three hits to pace the offense. Dean and Gallup both drove in two runs, while McElhannon and Wilson had multiple hits as well. McElhannon also swiped three of the team’s four stolen bases.
The Pirates were perfect defensively, committing no errors. McElhannon led the team in fielding chances with 12.
Crowder’s Daxton Weiher took the loss, allowing 11 runs – seven earned – on 16 hits over 5.2 innings.
Preston improves to 9-0 on the season and will host Stigler on Thursday.
