Governor Kevin Stitt has proclaimed February as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, celebrating the transformative role the CareerTech system plays in preparing students for high-demand careers and advancing workforce development in Oklahoma. For more than 100 years, Oklahoma CareerTech has been a cornerstone of economic growth and innovation, connecting students with industry through dynamic, skills-based education. Since 1974, Green Coun- try Technology Center (GCTC) has proudly served Okmulgee County, helping students and businesses succeed through cutting-edge programs and strong community partnerships.
The numbers tell the story. In the 2024 fiscal year, Oklahoma CareerTech served 520,733 enrollments, with GCTC enrolling thousands of students locally. Statewide, 44% of high school students in grades 9-12 took at least one CareerTech class – a figure reflected in GCTC’s commitment to empowering students with industry-relevant skills.
“Career and Technical Education is more than just training – it’s a gateway to opportunity,” GCTC Superintendent Roger King said. “At Green Country Technology Center, we see the profound difference it makes in the lives of our students and the success of our local businesses. Whether it’s guiding students to achieve their career aspirations or equipping companies with a highly skilled workforce, CareerTech transforms our community and strengthens Oklahoma’s economy.”
GCTC’s programs, from healthcare to skilled trades, are designed to align with local industry needs, bridging the gap between education and employment. “CareerTech Month is a time to reflect on the impact we’ve made and the future we’re building,” Anthony Nieto, Marketing & Communications Coordinator, said. “We’re proud to share the stories of success that demonstrate how CareerTech empowers students and fuels economic development right here in Okmulgee.”
With robust partnerships between businesses and educational institutions, Oklahoma CareerTech continues to foster career awareness, expand educational attainment, and address the workforce needs of today and tomorrow.

Together, we’re building brighter futures, one student at a time.
